kjpepper: (curse! curse!)
So remember how I was modelling my room in bryce last weekend? Yeah, I finished that, more or less. I got all the walls and outlets and stuff mapped out, and except for the bed, for which I found a close enough for government work model online, I pretty much substituted cubes for the rest of my pertinent furniture. Which are all pretty much cubes anyways.

renders n stuff )

Anyway, the POINT of this exercise was to figure out whether I could rearrange my room so I had a little more open space up near the door. The answer, alas, is not quite - my desk is too damn big to fit anywhere really. I could do it if I slid it down a couple of feet and put the bookcase behind it next to the window, but there'd be a funny area near the window that would be kind of hard to get to without squeezing around the bed.

So... foiled in my efforts for now. Curses. I'll get you next time, Gadget. Next time!!!

And now, pictures, uncut cause they're small and totally work safe. :)

first is the bite sized bunny I startled on my way home. Basically I saw him bounce out of the garden shrubbery I was passing and and we both stopped dead on the grass. You have no idea how hard it is to go into your velcro sealed bag and dig out your camera silently so as not to further alarm one very small, very skittish bunny.

I was actually about ye far away from him:

but do the Almighty Technology of Power Zoom, I got this relatively nice close up:

And then there's this screen cap I caught in the pirateverse, which was so ridiculous I had to take it:

In retrospect, I should have made that a thought bubble, since you can do that in chat circles, but I didn't think of it before syd woke up. :) Ah well, it's still amusing this way, cause it looks like I'm basically talking to myself.

It occurs to me that you if you had a lot of patience, RAM and computers at your disposal, and friends willing to do the necessary positioning and puppetry, you could make a YPP web comic (hell, look at what the Red vs Blue guys accomplished with Halo). Way too much work for the likes of me - I'll just stick to occasionally screen capping one-shots like this.

Hey [livejournal.com profile] mermaidblue,

Happy Birthday!

So the good news - my pics from the trip are up! There are a couple of the good shots missing, but at this point I'm way too tired and kinda sick of dealing with the project to worry about it.

The bad news: my picture portfolio is going to max out Dragonsea in about two more projects, if that much. :( If I keep this up, we might have to expand our package next year. I guess no more photo-essays for a while.
kjpepper: (Tenna (anxious))
Even after weeding out the crappy ones, I still have 106 pictures from yesterday's trip, 60 of which are from Reunion.

kjpepper: (OMG YAY)
I spent today hanging out with the [livejournal.com profile] sundart and the [livejournal.com profile] anzovin and had quite a good time of it, as it's been a while since the three of us did any hanging out. :) The day started with them rousting me back out of bed around noon to drag my carcass to the farmers market and get something breakfast-like, and then sunny and I were on our own for a bit... so we had some of that thar quality time that couples tend to want to have a lot. And then Raf came back and took us to the Taste... honestly I think I like Amherst's version better than Northampton's. That one had more restaurants, but it was such a tourist trap and the whole reason why they stopped was because no one was having any fun doing it anymore. Amherst's seems more homey somehow. And they had vendors. :) We even ran into Angelgrrl there, which was fun as she was baby-wrangling her neighbor's kids with her partner (and they looked so cute doing it too). I introduced Raf to the wonder that is chicken tikka masala, had myself some pulled pork, and after some initial pouting about the plethora of ice cream and other desserts available settled down with some B&J's berry berry sorbet, which turned out to be so heavenly I resolved to get myself a pint next time I had extra funds.

After lunch, R&C went to visit Raf's family so I went home with the found battery charger in hand, plugged in the camera and spent the rest of the afternoon happily pillaging and buying piratey furniture until I was again summoned by the Dynamic duo, this time for shopping (I at long last have the dream of having my very own venus flytrap plant fulfilled... and I got some hangers for both clothes and pictures) and seeing Cars again (they hadn't seen it.) Cars actually is quite a bit better the second time around, as you can ignore the formulaic plot and just admire the fact that they did a very very good job telling that particular story with friggin cars. It occurs to me that I should drag captainlove to see it at some point, as he would appreciate more than anyone else the amount of reasearch and production design went into this particular movie. Of course a good section of the movie was made rather unwatchable by some wench with little kids that insisted on loudly playing hide and seek or peekaboo or crying during the movie... did I mention loud? gaaaagh. It got a little better after I yelled "shut it up or take it home," much to the amusement of the people sitting around me. Seriously people. A G rating should mean "Grown up enough to sit still and shut up through the entire movie."

Anyway, now I sit, getting all of my pics off the camera and am settling in for some photo processing and cleaning up a little tonight... Tomorrow, provided I get my arse out of bed at a reasonable hour, I think will be laundry. Yes.

I think I really like this place. :)

Uy! That is not an exclamation it's a name. It's been bothering me the entire trip back.

By the grace of several serendipitous events, I am home, safe and sound and SANE! tonight. Today was by turns crazy, rushed, more crazy, downright surreal, happy, some more surreal and well yeah, all the sort of things that can be associated with a reunion, which was charmingly devoid of anything remotely Grosse Pointe Blankian (though the appropriate scene did cross my mind as I wandered the fourth floor of the building to "cruise by my old locker" as it were - luckily no French assassins interested in ballroom dancing, native American art and pornography leaped from the hallway to pummel me with kickboxing, thereby necessitating murder by pen.)

Anyway, reunion was. Yes. That is a good sentence. blah blah blah, "leave your livestock alone" )

I'm glad I decided to go today, and I'm doubly glad that I decided to take the camera with me. Getting the pics online will be my big project for the weekend - that and stuffing myself at Taste of Amherst. :) Right now I should really crash, but I'm not sleepy yet, so maybe I'll watch some Taxi until I am. But before that, a quote from the always wonderfully random [livejournal.com profile] jaicat, via voice mail:

"Give me a call, and we'll chew the beef... or the fat... or whatever it is people are chewing. What are the kids chewing these days? Isn't that a good question..."

"OK, my ass is so big it's breaking photoshop. [laughter] no, seriously, I do a brush stroke and it takes three minutes to process."

- [livejournal.com profile] kjpepper, touching up cheesecake photos of herself

EDIT: Later on...

[livejournal.com profile] sundart: Those pants hold up your ass like a scoop of ice cream... and I wanna take a bite!

Apparently, tonight is all about my ass. :)

Over the course of time, [livejournal.com profile] morlock and I have had an ongoing discussion/argument about the point of taking pictures, specifically of people, which is something I've always liked doing, much to the chagrin of those around me at the time. Various arguments for doing so was capturing on film/1s and 0s, a moment in time, a moment that will never be repeated in quite the same way again. And capturing people in that moment is really why anyone takes pictures. Parents do it because kids grow up, and the older I get the shorter a span of time 18 years seems to me... my first thought is the fact that [livejournal.com profile] sundart's parents keep complete 8x10 retrospectives of their kids growing up in the picture frames that house their most recent photos, so if you open the back of sunny's pic, you'll find her entire childhood summarized in black and white and that odd early 80s/late 70s red toned color palette.

There are several lines in the movie One Hour Photo (which is really good and fabulously creepy - definitely recommend renting it) that sum up the importance of pictures, my favorite being "If these pictures have anything important to say to future generations, it's this: I was here. I existed. I was young, I was happy, and someone cared enough about me in this world to take my picture." Basically how I feel about it.

I write this because I was google searching stuff and I ran across a picture on my web site that I hadn't looked at in a while... the people in the photo are different now, but then they stand, trying to look serious for the picture, but if you look closely at it you can see bits of them leaking out, the small exasperated and yet happy ghost of a smile on one, a beam of pure radiance barely contained in a somewhat more sedate expression on the other. It's a picture I'd been ambivalent about in the past, but am now glad I have, just for those expressions of barely held back excitement and the mischief of sitting on a secret.

More photographic rumination will be postponed due to the fact that I have to go to work today. *sigh*

Innshe cute?

These pics came from the second set of photographs I took of [livejournal.com profile] sydneycat for her Valentine Project of Doomy Doom. (No, you can't see the first set, though I must say I still want [livejournal.com profile] bluewindkitsune to perform his ropebinding magic on me at some point... or maybe [livejournal.com profile] sundart. Hmm. Now there's a pretty thought.)

six more... with captions )

So... who's next? ;D
kjpepper: (click)
...right before I left the office, so I fired off a quick shot in the bathroom mirror...

(that sounded really dirty.)

cheese, or something

In other news I owe [livejournal.com profile] somechicksings and [livejournal.com profile] beatgoddess a beating next time I see them, as my brain is repeatedly singing The X-files is a show... with music by Mark Snow.... Which I suppose is better than wanting to suddenly break into the Anabukin-chan dance, which is what I was doing all weekend.

I kept trying to post this entry the night before last, but kept getting interrupted in my efforts by falling asleep, accidental laptop shutdown, and long conversations with [livejournal.com profile] morlock about stuff until I decided to put it away until I got home and got the pics off our phones. But anyway, now seems like a good time as I woke up feeling like crud and since there's not all that much going on workwise I called in. I kinda feel a little more like crud, but that's because my stomach is off and yet I'm hungry, which is not a pleasant feeling. Also I'm completely bruised up my right side cause [livejournal.com profile] morlock and I were wrestling last night and I took a really hard spill in the middle. I'm having weird deja vu back to when I was recovering from the car, cause it's all on the same side. And on top of that my left knee's being dodgy. Yeah, I'm kind of a collection of ick right now. Bleh.

Anyways. It's a good time to post about New York.

apparently this is the entry that doesn't end. It just goes on and on, my friend. I just got started typing it not knowing what it was, and now I'll keep on typing it forever just because this is the entry that doesn't end, It just goes on and on, my friend. I just got started typing it not knowing what it was, and now I'll keep on typing it forever just because this is the entry that doesn't end... BTW, there are some crappy cell phone pictures. )

The rest of today might include some laundry, some more sleep, meeting [livejournal.com profile] sydneycat for her lunch break since it's just down the street - need to go to the bank anyway so it's a good excuse to leave the house for a short bit...
kjpepper: (random (potterpuffs))
True to my night owlly nature, I am only now embarking on the house tidying project after a day of lethargy, napping, and well ok, I got showered, rediscovered pure vasoline as the best moisturizer on the planet and had african food, but I did intend to tidy up the house a bit. Anyway, as I was straightening up in [livejournal.com profile] sundart's room I got whimsical with the posing of Theoden on the foot of the bed.

Theoden considers the merits of building with adobe

He looks like he belongs. :)

I must also say, it's nice to have an actual computer to play mp3s on again. Yay Sunny.

Holy crap

kjpepper: (oooh pancake!)
This morning after dragging me out of the octopus-like embrace of a very sleepy, cuddly [livejournal.com profile] morlock (my own fault, really for not waking up on time but *whine*), [livejournal.com profile] sundart and [livejournal.com profile] anzovin and I wandered down to the UMass stone circle to take some long overdue shots of them together. I thought I'd have max 5 or so usable shots out of the 79 taken, but about 60 of them are good enough to print, most without any photoshop retouching needed at all.

I've been told I take the occasional good picture or two. Even then - sometimes I goggle at what comes out of a camera I'm using and disbelieve that I'm the one behind the shutter. I must be getting better at this. 'Course, it helps that it's impossible to take a bad picture of [livejournal.com profile] sundart.

anyway, five of the shots taken this morning... I think they really capture the spirit of the two of them.

cut for extreme awwww factor )

A note about the last one - back when they first started going out, [livejournal.com profile] anzovin drew [livejournal.com profile] sundart a pencil sketch of a werewolf with a wood nymph/priestess girl that well, looked a crapton like sunny. I wish I could scan it so y'alls can compare it to the daisy crown shots I took, but from looking at it again, either [livejournal.com profile] anzovin managed to capture the spirit of the two of them accurately in the first place, or I managed to capture the spirit of the drawing in the photograph, but - damn. Probably some of both.

There are mad pagans outside, at some point I'd better go see what they're up to.
kjpepper: (Default)
See what I mean?

Also see new default icon. Ignore the resemblance to Stevie Wonder.
kjpepper: (swings)
Note - I took about 110 pictures. Maybe 80 of which were really good. I include maybe 30 here.

[livejournal.com profile] gossamer_gull and [livejournal.com profile] birkwelch will be getting complete sets of prints. :)

pictures! Movies! Text! )
kjpepper: (Default)
according to mitzu anyway. I woke up and plunked myself down in front of the computer to find her wedged under the DVD shelf. So I took a picture.

Hmm, this looks like a good place to sleep....

She's now stretched out and fast asleep. She's sooooo cute when she's not being an absolute dumbass.
kjpepper: (Default)
So considering this is going to be a looooooooooooooong illustrated entry, I'm not only LJ-cutting, but I also don't trust Semagic with it - writing it in editpad beforehand. So there!

That said, me, [livejournal.com profile] sundart, [livejournal.com profile] gossamer_gull, [livejournal.com profile] inle_rah, and [livejournal.com profile] gossamer_gull's boy Jonothan all went to Six Flags New England yesterday.

Short story: we had sooooo much fun going on all the rides and getting the pictures taken and stuff. I'm so tired, but in a good happy sore way.

Long Story )

Today I was supposed to go to work and get a jump on all of the work that awaits me, but as I am sore and exhausted, I think I will go tomorrow. I will take it easy today and tend to some household chores (laundry, hair, scrubby overlong nails, dishes, returning [livejournal.com profile] sundart's library books) instead. Tonight I think [livejournal.com profile] darkling_dreams is coming to crash for the night as well, so at some point I have to haul out and repair the AeroBed for her, as BritGirl is currently staying in Ho4's room. But I am tired and happy, and there will be Samurai Jack tonight, and good friends, and maybe my tummy will have recovered enough to handle that chicken carbonara I ordered from the italian place by [livejournal.com profile] gossamer_gull's last night but couldn't really eat. *happy wiggle* Thanks to everyone that hauled our asses out to Agawam and then made the afternoon an unholy amount of fun. *hugs to all*
