"Sisketti." I was kind of a pasta fiend when I was little.

In other news, back in NY safe, car returned an hour and a half ahead of schedule after a pretty uneventful drive down, and OH MAN IT IS BOILING IN THE CITY OH GOD. MELTING! MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELTING.... Also i somehow missed that the MTA fares went up on Sunday. I tried to get on the subway at Grand Central and the turnstile went LOLCRYMOARNOOB at me. I also came home and was greeted with Dad holding an errand/shopping list. *sigh* back to life, back to reality, lol.

Now: OMG laundry. And lunch.

I can't pick just one so I'll specify categories.

Favorite song to sing along to: "the way you make me feel" this comes on, it's required by law that I sing it. Especially the "ah-cha-ooh" bit.

Most admirable production work: "beat it". This song is so tight. The guitar solo. The intro. The percussion. It was just so well put together there is no way of improving on it short of a weird al parody, and "eat it" is classic in it's own right.

Song that gets me the hardest emotionally: "will you be there" I tear up every time I hear it.

Best video evar: "remember the time" really Michael has never made a bad video (well okay I wasn't thrilled with "you are not alone") but this one... I don't know. Something about it keeps me watching over and over. I actually think it's one of the ones where he looks the happiest.

Random song moment: "scream" I have to listen to it because it's still so incredibly jarring hearing Michael and Janet drop the f- bomb.

Musically awesome: "don't stop till you get enough" strings, brass, electric guitar. Jizz in my pants.

Best party song: "PYT". Fuck "single ladies" this is the song you play is you want all the ladies on the dance floor.

Favorite all around song: "wanna be starting something" this wins for random lyrics (you ever want to end an insult war on an amusing note say someones a vegetable and a buffet, and they hate you) and because "mamase mamasa mama coosa" is ... It's like pure joy expressed in song.

I had a rather good evening. More when I can type on a real keyboard instead of the Preciousssss.

New York: the subway, any part of it really but if we are anywhere near Herald Square you will be dragged onto the 34th street N R Q platform to play with Reach! NY. Also the museum of natural history, rockafeller center, and maybe the cloisters. These days I've been sticking closer to home so a tour round prospect park, Flatbush and park slope will likely happen too.

The Valley: a few more options are available since I can drive now... There's always downtown noho and Amherst (everyone gets dragged to a2z with me at least once), but now there's the book mill in montague, the peace pagoda in leverett, the potholes at shelburne falls, bash bish falls, Magic Wings and (not for the faint of nose) Yankee candle.

I'm currently having some lunch in the sunshine at BPL waiting for a requested book to be brought up. Gods... Parade of cute children out here...

It's still on the market. I kinda wish someone would just buy it so the listing can quit taunting me.

It's an axe to the grind/let's-be-annoyed-at-myself-and-overcompensate-for-this-by-trying-to-do-EVERYTHING kind of day. I swear, if I spent as much time DOING shit as opposed to moping about how I'm NOT doing shit, shit would get done. *sigh*

What about you?

I'd love to answer this with Bruce Willis' line from the Fifth Element. "Lady, I only speak two languages, English and Bad English!" But that's not quite true, so...

Well, I do speak English. Specifically American English. Ridiculously specifically, Northeastern American English (New York City peppered with enough Western Mass to brand me a State Traitor when I'm down here... with a side of AAVE).

Most of that's me being silly. I speak English. Full stop.

I used to be reasonably conversant in French. I won't say fluent, because honestly my grammar is hopeless in any language (I still fuck up tenses in English, FFS), but I could speak and write fairly well once upon a time (if you overlook my complete disregard for accents.) I can still read well in it, and a couple of weeks ago managed to direct an utterly lost couple back to Manhattan on the subway in it, so I haven't lost it completely.

I also used to be slightly less reasonably conversant in Russian too. A lot more of that's gone except for random things (music, children's poetry and insults mostly).

I can't speak worth shit, but thanks to a lifetime of bilingual signs on the subway and a knack for pattern matching, I can read in Spanish well enough to get the gist of things.

Other than that... I know how to insult your mother in a few different languages, several extremely silly things in German, and a fair amount of Japanese vocabulary. I'm also a little surprised that 1337speak or /b/tard doesn't classify as their own dialects by now.

Real entry to follow later.

All sixty-seven replies to this post. I still look it up every so often when I need a giggle because it was so full of batshit and win, not to mention certain things are hilarious in retrospect considering current context. People need to get bored in my journal more often.

Not my journal: all call-out smack talk posts from [livejournal.com profile] blackfolk (except the last one was lame), and DOLLERDAY: POST SOME FUCKING DOLLS threads on [livejournal.com profile] ag_over_18

Considering where I was today, this question was oddly appropriate. And yeah, I realize people often have more than first middle and last names. Still like my answer, nyeh.

Oh gods. A lot. If I started naming them all we'd be here forever. Also, this number is augmented when you factor in all the songs that I don't think I know by heart but can sing all the words to when they come on the radio. It's one of those "human brains are really quite interesting" things in terms of memory and what unlocks it.

Question is oddly on point, as I was about to post about skipping this week's podcast and thinking about new music in general. Like the song from this commercial. And both Lily Allen's albums. My ears and ipod are sponges...

Plan for today... go with dad to three (!!!) doctor's appointments, have a sit down with Toodledoo and update it, play with the paint samples I picked up at Benjamin Moore yesterday, rescue my laundry from the dryer, figure out when I'm going to have time to go to the library, more thinking/wibbling about car rental, wedding presents and trips. And work. Oh god, work. I'm going to take the laptop with me and see if any of these places Dad has to go have wireless.

I have had three of them crop up periodically, depending on what's happening in my life. The one I used to have as a kid a lot was falling into the subway tracks in front of an oncoming train. Two is my stock anxiety dream, where I show up for an exam in a class I either have never taken or have never gone to class for and of course the exam ends up being complicated math problems ot ancient Latin or something my brain can't get around. And then there's the dream where I'm wandering around a giant swanky hotel and punch the wrong floor on the elevator and come out on a floor closed to the public because it's either still under construction, badly damaged by fire, or simply just closed and empty with sheets over all the furniture and fixtures. That one I've also had since I was a kid, and to this day I have no idea what it means.

Probably "Aunt Sponge and Aunt Spiker" from Roald Dahl's James and the Giant Peach. Dahl really did have a knack for delightfully mean, subversive poetry of all stripes, but these two bits of vengeful vitriol, I think, were his best.

The end of "Aunt Sponge" kinda violates the form, but nyeah, don't care. Also, I'm quoting these from memory so some of the words might be wrong. I couldn't find them on Google. Context if you haven't read or seen it: Spiker and Sponge are the two evil aunts, who meet their well-deserved demise when the giant peach rolls over them, squishing them dead.

Aunt Sponge was terrifically fat,
And tremendously flabby at that.
Her tummy and waist
Were as soggy as paste-
It was worse on the place where she sat!

SO she said, "I must make myself flat.
I shall make myself sleek as a cat.
I shall do without dinner
To make myself thinner."
But along came the peach
Oh the beautiful peach
And made her far thinner than

Aunt Spiker was thin as a wire,
And dry as a bone, only drier.
She was so long and thin
if you carried her in
You could use her for poking the fire!

"I must do something quickly," she frowned.
"I was FAT. I want pound upon pound!
I must eat lots and lots
of marshmallows and chocs
'Till I start bulging out all around."

"Ah yes," she announced, "I have sworn
That I'll alter my figure by dawn!"
Cried the peach with a snigger,
"I'll alter YOUR figure..."
And ironed her out on the lawn.

And of course, the obligatory favorite dirty limerick (there are so many!):

A couple named William and Nellie,
Spent an hour once stuck at the belly,
Because in their haste
They used library paste
Instead of petroleum jelly.

ETA: also yoinked from someone else's answer to this:

A preoccupied vegan named Hugh
picked up the wrong sandwich to chew.
He took a big bite
before spitting, in fright,

April 2003, I had a bit of an "everyone I know seems to be on this thing" moment. I was hitting the wall on keeping up with my paper journal, so I got an invite code and signed up for an account, thinking I'd tire of it in a couple of weeks... Why is it everything I give two weeks tends to drag on for more than half a decade? lol.

that would definitely have to be harinezumi. I shudder to think that I'm old enough to say I've been friends with someone for almost 20 years.

Of my random "people I've never met/met because of LJ" list... _kyri was definitely random friending #1, followed by kshandra, masteradept, austingoddess, and kittikattie. These people have been following my drama since the gods only knows when and I'm glad for it every single day.

I'm gonna get myself a 1967 Cadillac Eldorado convertible, hot pink, with whale skin hubcaps and all leather cow interior and brown baby seal eyes for headlights and I'm gonna drive in that baby at 115 miles per hour, gettin' 1 mile per gallon, sucking down Quarter Pounder cheeseburgers from McDonald's in the old fashioned non-biodegradable styrofoam containers and when I'm done sucking down those greeseball burgers I'm gonna wipe my mouth with the American flag and then I'm gonna toss the styrofoam containers right out the side and there ain't a goddamn thing anybody can do about it. You know why, because we've got the bombs, thats why.

Okay, not really, but it WAS the first thing that popped into my head in response to this question.

I don't think I'd classify any job I've held as "the worst." They all had their annoyances, but they all had their perks too.

I guess the two minimum wage jobs I've had would qualify, though for the most part I liked working at both Cinemark and Paradise Copies. While concessions was hard on the feet and legs, not to mention numerous bad encounters with the ow ow hot elements of a popcorn maker and the wanting to stab people that drink diet soda and having to upsell shit, at the same time, I loved the people I worked with, I liked getting free movies, and there is a fair amount of silly to be had behind a concession stand so... overall that wasn't all that bad. And working the copy shop was fun for many of the same reasons - the people there at the time were all fun and interesting, I got to do big scary things like work the electric guillotine paper cutter, and take home samples of very pretty paper and clip art. So yeah... I don't know. I liked both well enough. I'd consider picking up a shift here and there at Cinemark still after I get back to the Valley if a spot opened up in box. So eh.

This rarely happens to me as I'm kinda anal about getting song lyrics right, but my former assistant at work was notorious for not only not being able to sing his way out of a paper bag, but getting the words hilariously wrong. (Case in point.) One of the reasons why I miss him a lot.

Loud eating. I don't mind a certain level of crunchy, but if I hear your teeth click together, squishy noises of any stripe, slurping, or if your crunching is interfering with my movie/bad tv/stories, I will cut you.

This goes without saying due to the above, but chewing with your mouth open? Big no no.

To a slightly lesser extent people with long nails that don't bother taking care of them. If you're going to have white showing, they should a) all at least be the same length/shape and b) not have two millimeters of black under them. ew.

Not so much on the bus, but you grow up in New York and you end up seeing a lot of crazy stuff on the subway. Plenty of your standard issue crazies, flashers and pan flute ensembles (anyone who has seen any recent South Park should be giggling about that one), but every so often you see really spectacular things, like the six and a half foot tall skinny black man dressed in a rainbow tie-dyed bodysuit that covered him from head to ankles, antennae and huge diaphanous butterfly wings that was running up and down the platform at W 34th street singing the theme from the 1960s Batman.

Speaking of which, the annual pantsless ride should be soon, if not already past, I'll have to check. Every January, an improv group (forget which one) invites any and all who want to join them for a day-long ride around New York on the subway. Without pants. I have not yet seen/participated in this and I'm pretty sure I missed it this year, but one day I mean to.

Without Star Trek, William Shatner wouldn't "exist", sparing me "Priceline Negotiator" commercials. I could deal with that. Thing is, I actually like TNG and DS9... hmmm. Trying to decide if sacrificing those would be worth the eradication of nonconsensual Shatner... yes. yes they would.

This question makes me snicker. I never had a clear idea on what constitutes first base and so on, but whatever, I'm pretty sure whatever constitutes first and second base were achieved during one of two movies seen with [livejournal.com profile] harinezumi in high school.

I am often boggled by how much people still give a crap about baseball. What?

In other news, I've definitely been pushing myself too hard this week - woke up with a critical spoon error and called in late to work. I got here at 1. I'm still kinda low in the spoon department and cranky, plus I think I'm getting PMS. Joy. On top of everything else.

I'm feeling kinda emotionally shut down this week as well... well, except for feeling wrung out in the evenings to the point where I've been spending them cloistered up in my room staring into the pixels. So if I'm not chatty over IM or monosyllabic or overly touchy, that's why.

HOWEVER. Sigg bottle arrives today, and it's pizza night. So it ain't all bad.
