Yay music meme!
Nov. 24th, 2003 10:38 pmThanks again, to
denonymous! He posts the best stuff.
1. Favorite Album Cover Art?
That would be a tie between Meat Loaf's Bat Out of Hell II (mmm, Michael Whalen), Pink Floyd's The Wall, and Michael Jackson's Dangerous, which you can't really appreciate unless you get one of those long vintage boxes that CDs used to come in.
2. What albums(s) do you own in more than one format?
Um... I always meant to replace some albums I got on tape with CDs, but never got around to it. In the merged music collections of me and
sundart, we have The Best of the Doors and The Crow soundtrack in two formats. Oh, and I do own CD and LP versions of Bat out of Hell I, Pink Floyd's the Wall, and Andreas Vollenweider's Behind the Assface and under the Tree (forget the exact title, but it was along those lines. Minus the ass. Hey! Stop making fun of me! Yes, I own Andreas Vollenweider. I also own Yanni. Shut up.)
3. Analog or Digital?
I like digital. I also think classic rock is greatly improved by scratches. That and I like fucking with turntable speeds. And making 110-120 minute mix tapes.
5. What albums of your parents did you borrow or steal?
My dad listens only to classical music and my mom listens exclusively to country music and gospel. I've maybe stolen a volume of Mozart symphonies. And once a couple of Wynonna, but the latter was simply to stop her from playing it for the 78th time that week. Did come close to swiping some Mary Chapin Carpenter, tho.
6. Secret guilty pleasure album?
They Might Be Giants, Flood. Minimum waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaage! HIYAAH! *whipcrack*
7. Favorite movie soundtrack?
Don't have one - like the instrumentals for way too many movies to decide. In terms of compilations of songs, I do like The Matrix, The Crow, and Forrest Gump.
8. Favorite compilation album?
Probably the first Jock Rock album.
9. What do you drink when you listen to ______?
This is a silly question.
10. Top 3 on your wishlist?
Covenant - Northern Lights, Aerosmith - Get A Grip (grr, this was one of the first CDs I ever bought for myself (on a first date with
harinezumi no less) and it fucking vanished three years ago!), and a-ha's East of the Sun, West of the Moon, which is no longer available in the US. Not that I'm bitter. Also if anyone could find me the soundtrack to Delicatessen that would be cool.
11. Favorite place to buy music?
Turn It Up is currently a good place. Cheap is good. Though
sundart and I need to make that darklandmusic.com order at some point.
12. First concert?
Um... Heh. That was probably when the MC Hammer 2 Legit 2 Quit tour roared through NYC. That was fun.
13. Best concert ever?
*shrug* don't do concerts much. The first time I saw the Cruxshadows years back was pretty memorable, back when HvN still had a cage for Rogue to climb around on.
14. Favorite venue?
Madison Square Garden fucking rules. Yes, I'm a New Yorker. Shut up.
15. Farthest you've traveled for a show?
Not all that far. Probably the most inconvenient place was going to the Meadowlands Arena for a Meat Loaf concert.
16. Favorite crooner?
Tie between Ol' Blue Eyes and Nat King Cole. No, I am going to behave and NOT write Ol' Nigger.
17. Favorite musical decade?
I was big into grunge. Much to the horror and torment of my parents. I find it funny that growing up I could play Beethoven's 9th as loud as I liked (and did, quite often to make a point, to the detriment of any glass surfaces around), but the second I switched to Green Day... "ANDEE! TURN THAT CRAP DOWN!"
18. Favorite label?
labels? Anything not controlled by the RIAA is cool.
19. You're the DJ at a small party of close friends. What do you play?
Guess what, people. Dead Stars still burn. ~_^
It's better not to have me DJ. My overall taste in music is far too cracked.
20. What do you listen to when you are getting ready to go out on the town?
Something I can swivel my hips and do a serious B-girl booty dance to. Sean Paul's Get Busy comes to mind.
20 1/2. When you first wake up?
I would like one of those little alarm clocks you can program to play music sometime.
21. Favorite cover song?
That would still be Bigod 20's Like a Prayer. There is something really fucking funny about scary German-sounding guys covering something as fagtacular as Madonna.
22. One hit wonder?
Come on, Eileen, talooora lay...
23. Two hit wonder?
probably a-ha. VH1 counts them as a one hit wonder, but the other single they released besides Take On Me (which was The Sun Always Shines on TV) did pretty well too.
24. Favorite box set?
I'm still shocked people have money for such things.
25. How do you usually discover new music?
Radio, other people, dj playlists
26. Best road trip sing-along album?
Any album by Cake.
27. What are your desert island top 10 records?
I get more attached to songs more than albums really. But of the ones I do have...
VNV Nation - Praise the Fallen
Jock Rock Volume 1
They Might Be Giants - Flood
a-ha - Memorial Beach
Cake - oh crap. um. Probably Comfort Eagle, but I love all four of them.
bjork - Post
Pink Floyd - The Wall
Forrest Gump - OST
Nine Inch Nails - The Fragile
Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral
