kjpepper: (How Rude!)

Is there a secret dimensional pocket somewhere where all the hair ties eventually go to die? I bought a package of headbands a couple of months ago because my dreads in the front are at that fabulous length where they're too short to tuck behind my ears and long enough to get in my way up front, and I'm down to one already. Damned if I know what happened to all of them, it was a ten-pack. And it's very likely that I'll have to replace them sometime this week because my hair is at the length where I'm constantly annoyed by it. But this has been a problem all my life - I swear, I've checked all the usual hiding places, and I'm convinced that all the scrunchies, clips, ties and bands just vanish after a while...

I have two daughters and I've already spent $30,000,000,000 on the damn things. They just VANISH. If you have a cat, I promise you he/she works for the aliens controlling the pocket, cats collect them at night and deposit them as we sleep in exchange for Kitty Yums and alien rubber mousies.

I think they do just vanish. Even when I've packed up everything in a house to move I don't find them. The girls go through packs and packs of them.
The only solution I've found for my own hair accessories is to have *one* of whatever it is, and keep it in the same spot every time without fail. (For some reason, if I have more than one I get sloppy about it, and then I can't find any of them.)

Yep...I've seen this happen. One of my cats loves to play with headbands. She just reaches onto the table and bat bat bats them.

I don't know how many times I've picked them up off the floor.

They're right next to the socks and the hard drive screws.

Be careful, cats sometimes eat elastics. And if they do, they can bunch up in their intestines in bad ways that require surgery. I know, because ninja required about $1000 worth or surgery for eating a freakishly huge piece of string once.
