the kind of unfortunate things about being sick in the hospital (other than the usual):

The little "DOO DOO DOO" noise the morphine drip plays when you have successfully coaxed the machine to give you pain meds is far less Legend of Zelda and more Five Dolla Foot Long. Camptown Races if the machine needs batteries.

Nurses who are not unwilling to haul you awake at two am to make sure your airway is clear and that you've really truly earned having your catheter out. oKay, you've earned your pull ups... NOW WEAR THEM. They mean well, but JEEZ. Considering I wake up completely disoriented every single time here, when people are waking you up, turning you over making you hack up what feels like your insides and doing torturous things like, you know, walk all before you realize you're in the hospital and not at home and no, this isn't the result of refusing one of Don Corleone's offers that you cannor refuse... it's a bit unsettling.

Annoyed that they have better cable downstairs than in ICU. ICU gets like 12 channels, regular patient rooms at least get the full basic cable run, That said, I was able to catch the season finale of AGT. I think Nothin but strings and Queen Emily got ROBBED personally, they would have been my top two. that said, I am glad Neal Boyd won, and all four will make a killing somewhere and hopefully they'll stick Donald Brazwell on a broadway tour run of some unknown broadway tour and no one will have to hear him again.

I seem to have gotten sick concurrently to a local bigwig horse show - not a hotel with an open vacancy in the entire damn pioneer valley. this is making getting my sister out for the weekend a mite difficult. In terms of people who don't mind being putting up in different corners of my house, those are a little easier - got a blue coming on Saturday, and one bit of the zakrzewski contingent leaving today and the other arriving today. yikes. Have I mentioned lately that my in-laws rule?

Gods. Still want blue steak of some caliber. Meantime, the moment my nose tube comes out, it's going to be all the beef/chicken broth this place can get a while. I haven't eaten anything solid since breakfast exactly a week ago; any food commercials, even the nasty stuff, looks amazing. Curse you pizza hut and Pepsi and you know that not only can eat but actually seem to be in possession of a Sonic, which is to say NOWHERE NEAR where they play the commercials. *shakes fist*

Overall... on the mend. Lots of coughing, pain meds, and the ignominy of having to relearn basic human functioning but overall, it ain't bad. I think I can more than tentatively say I'll make it out of this one too. Kitty might have nine lives after all.. :)

Peace and love and THANK YOU for all of you reading this. Kiss y'all for me.

*BIG Gentle Hug*

Yes relearning basic human functions is not fun but at least you can enjoy those privileges again.

If you ever wanted to break an addiction to food, a week+ stay in the hospital will do it. Both times I was in the hospital I came out 10-20 pounds lighter and not missing overly sweet, fat laden foods. This of course only lasted till I had a meal at a local burger joint...with a massive burger, fries, shake and dessert.

J has my new number, grab it from him and call if you need a pillow to whine / cry/ rant/ go bonkers on.

TV in the ICU

I once went through the ICU on an errand and met a guy whose eye-and-partial-face removal had gone sour and was abscessing--and he was totally riveted to a highly explicit True Crime Drama on serial cannibals.

He was either a total badass, or more brain-damaged than we'd suspected.

Yep...you definitely are a trooper!

I have to say that hospitals are really awful places to get stuck. I think the worst thing for me was not being able to sleep very well. I ended up having to take Ambien every night I was there. If I didn't...I wouldn't get any sleep at all and I'd be a complete wreck the next day. When they moved me to the regular room back in January, I ended up frantically calling my mother-in-law and saying please please please get me transferred to another hospital (the one my doctor was out of) and get me out of here...mostly because I had to go to the bathroom, the nurses were being slow, and there was a singer across the hall from me who was going to keep me awake for a second night in a row. She talked me into asking the nurse for some Ambien. Fortunately, it worked and I got some sleep. I think they also slipped something to the singer because I don't think she made a peep that entire night.
