On Ricardo Montalbán
Jan. 15th, 2009 08:09 amI am amused by the number of KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!!! posts on my flist in the last 12 hours, and saddened by the reason.
I actually never saw Wrath of Khan (had a severe allergy to Star Trek growing up; have since accepted TNG as pretty good and DS9 as amusingly diverting) but considering the crowd with whom I hung out for most of my sentient life, I got the reference when it came up. What I didn't connect until yesterday was that Ricardo Montalbán (btw, take a look at some of the pictures from his early career, the man was hot) was also Mr. Roarke on Fantasy Island... which was pretty big in my house. I can just kinda see him and Hervé Villechaize having a joyride in a 1975 Cordoba and being all "yeah, that 'ze plane ze plane' shit was asstarded..."
Fare thee well, man. I hope wherever your journey has taken you, you're looking back and enjoying the cries of a legion of anguished fans. Goodness knows it's amusing me.
...damn, I need a general death icon.
