Un Chien Andalou - okay, this has a bit of an anecdote associated with it. The 11th grade's drama class production was King Lear... and right at the scene where Gloucester gets his eyes cut out, the action froze on stage, the lights dimmed and the bit of this movie where this chickie gets her eye sliced open with a straight razor got played against the back wall of the set... I was on stage at the time, holding Gloucester down, and unfortunately had frozen looking into the audience - two of my english teachers - these crusty middle aged guys - were watching the screen and at the second the eyeball slice occurred, both made faces of pure horror, clutched each other, and went "eeeeeuuuuuuuuwwwwww." Do you know how hard it was to keep a straight face for that?

The Wizard of Oz - watch the rallying of the Wicked Witch of the West's castle guards (you know, the "yo hee ho, yooooo hoooo" scene) and then watch the Klan rally scene from O Brother Where Art Thou? sometime. It's pretty fabulous. Oh, and read Wicked. Excellent book, though I'm rather dubious about the fact that they turned it into a musical...
