So today is where we get to hear the last gasps and death rattles of 2003. (Great image, eh?) I've got no real plans for tonight, other than renting the first season of Queer as Folk (saw the first 10 minutes of the first episode and laughed my ass off - yay, Hal Sparks! And I thought he was funny on I Love the 80s...) going home, improvising some sort of dinner like substance, and starting the mammoth project that is my hair. The fro is bugging me. Oh, and calling everyfrigginbody I can think of at the appropriate times. Well, everyone I know who won't be out partying.

I suppose I'll save my actual year in review introspective celebrity batshit circus for tomorrow, when I don't have to work. :)

Parting shot - something madhellawicked cute. :)

This year I...
  • got cable after 2 years of no TV
  • somehow found myself mommy to one very extra, very dumb, very sweet boycat
  • lived through the end of the friendship between two of my best friends.
  • got thoroughly addicted to Samurai Jack (hmm, need to tape the 3rd season...)
  • was actually in a position to give some helpful emotional support to [livejournal.com profile] harinezumi. He knows to what I refer.
  • used a snowblower, power sander, and nasty noxious wallpaper stripper for the first time. Would definitely do the power sander and snowblower thing again. :) Mmm, girlz and power machinery... *drool*
  • moved across town again. This involved the painting and renovation of our current space, which was an agonizing three months of hell.
  • got Livejournal!
  • witnessed [livejournal.com profile] beatgoddess compose the Penis Truck song
  • got broadband
  • Went to Six Flags/Riverside for the first time. It kicked ass.
  • Stopped speaking to one of my sisters officially. With good reason.
  • watched [livejournal.com profile] birkwelch and [livejournal.com profile] sundart get together after nearly six months or so of entertaining the though in the theoretical realm. Wackiness ensues.
  • discovered I like fresh picked blackberries
  • started going to Haven again on a less than regular but more that erratic basis, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] inle_rah and [livejournal.com profile] gossamer_gull
  • proved that really strong relationships can do the polyamory thing quite well
  • fell in love to a devastating level twice
  • helped [livejournal.com profile] darkling_dreams move from CT to MA
  • completed a gorgeous photo project featuring [livejournal.com profile] sundart as my model. :) Will post some of the rated G pics at some point, now that [livejournal.com profile] birkwelch has finally gotten his birthday/Christmas present.
  • dreadlocked [livejournal.com profile] beatgoddess's hair
  • started collecting Strangers In Paradise and Rurouni Kenshin graphic novels
  • hooked up with [livejournal.com profile] timarok for a couple of weeks. More wackiness ensues, including me having sex with a bio-boy for the first time in nearly a decade. Survey says... :D
  • Went to Six Flags/Riverside Fright Fest. It kicked ass. Especially the Superman.
  • had the best pirate halloween EVER
  • saw the last of the Matrix (hopefully) and the last of the Lord of the Rings *cry*
  • recanted everything derogatory I ever had to say about Buffy the Vampire Slayer
  • skipped a major biofamily holiday for the first time ever
  • saw [livejournal.com profile] harinezumi for the first time in 2.5 years
  • survived THE most stressful six weeks at work EVER
  • made a few kickass mixes. :)

Stuff to do in 2004:
  • get the damned drivers license already
  • graduate
  • figure out what the hell I'm going to do with the rest of my life :)
  • make more mixes
  • pick up musical stuff again. I've missed the violin, the clarinet and the singing...
  • Write write write write write!

oh yeah...

HAPPY F***ING NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!

kjpepper: (hot stuff)
I finished my last mix of the year today!

It started with an idea of [livejournal.com profile] gossamer_gull's, where she made a mix called Dangerous Devotion that was full of somewhat... unhealthy love songs. :) Inspired by that, I started compiling a somewhat similar list (indeed, I think a couple of the tracks on hers reprise themselves here). What evolved from that was a story of a long-term relationship gone to absolute shit and its effect and aftermath on one of the parties involved. The mix itself is very quiet and sad, and somehow, once I'd mixed it all together, breathtakingly beautiful.

Beyond Repair
Garbage - #1 Crush
Dave Matthews Band - Crash Into Me
Peter Gabriel - In Your Eyes
Nick Cave - (Are You) The One That I've Been Waiting For
Hedwig and the Angry Inch - The Origin of Love
The Sisters Of Mercy - Torch
R.E.M. - Strange Currencies
Sarah McLachlan - Possession
U2 - All I Want Is You
Beck - Beautiful Way
Portishead - Wandering Star
A-ha - Lamb To The Slaughter
Coldplay - Trouble
The Cure - Pictures of You
Indigo Girls - Left Me A Fool
Rufus Wainwright - hallelujah
Dead Can Dance - Don't fade away (live)

Of course, as g.g. just pointed out over IM, the same story can be told much more humourously just by listening to Adam Sandler's Somebody Kill Me. LOL

Between that and realizing that I wasn't telling my own story with this mix, the depressive effect of it has been well and truly nullified for me. But still - probably one of my better ones this year, and a fitting note on which to go out.
