kjpepper: (we're just kids (morlock))
But first, a word from our sponsor - Trains Passing! *bounce of glee as one passes* I'm never going to get tired of that sound. I meant to walk down to the tracks this evening and watch the 11:30 go by, but a) it seems to be 2 hours late b) Freakishly, I went to sleep at 8:45ish. At least the sky was still blue out there when I rolled over, I remember that.

So.

The weather broke today, thank the Goddess. It was kinda hot and stupid this morning and then I got out of work and what the hell, it was actually... bearable. Pleasant, even. Still humid, mind you, but MUCH better than it has been. And tonight is wonderfully cool. Tomorrow's high temperature? 71 degrees, baby. Now that's what I'm talkin' about. Screw the August weather, screw it right in the ear.

... why do people say to screw/fuck something in the ear? Is it 'cause it would hurt more? Never mind, random thought. Moving right along.

After work and a bit of a delay caused by a missed signal, [livejournal.com profile] morlock and I with a side dish of [livejournal.com profile] sundart met up for some shopping goodness. i.e. I dragged him into Jonothan Reid to pick out his and the groomsmen's tuxes. Reasons why this was fun? well a, I immediately found a wonderful bowler hat that of course I had to try on. I must say, I look good in those. 'Specially with my hair back and with the addition of dangly earrings. :) Very Liza Minelli in Cabaret. Wilkommen, Bienvenue, Welcome. Well yay. Usually I hate how I look with my hair back (round face y'know), but earrings and a bowler seem to mitigate the look. Must get one. Told [livejournal.com profile] sundart and [livejournal.com profile] morlock that when I pick up my tux, that bowler is coming with me.

Ah, which brings me to b. [livejournal.com profile] morlock asked me to join his penguin squad be one of his groomsmen! *barely contained fit of hyperactive glee* a) I'm honored. Seriously. That's cool shit right there. b) I got fitted for Fisher Price My First Tux today!

So. I look really good in men's suits. I mean, we knew I would... but Damn! Hotness! Of course, add the bowler and hello Minister of Silly Walks. Anyway... wow. I get to wear a tux, yo, do you know how long I've wanted to do that?

Things that amused the hell out of me during the fitting process:
  • Waist, neck, shoulder, sleeve, outseam... as opposed to bust, waist, hips, inseam. Anyway, measuring for such things is interesting.

  • I was kinda worried that Madame Ghettobooty wasn't going to get into the pants. Shouldn't have worried. Tuxes have these neat little pulls around the waist to compensate for that. I win! And I can sit down, too, which is helpful.

  • "suit jacket sleeves properly fall between the wrist and the first joint of the thumb. Also don't button the bottom button - you'll pop it off if you sit down." Yeah, especially with my hips. Thank you Ryan for the advice, putting up with us, and for being cute. Whee.

  • the fact that the finished product, with jacket, reduces sunny to admiring squeals is a serious bonus.

  • Goddamn. The world of rented formalwear is seriously intriguing, even if all the tux models are homosocial as hell. Specially wit two guys in the picture, one's always looking at the camera and the other is looking at the other guy as if he wants to paint him in chocolate and nibble small strawberries off his nipples or something. There was this one poor guy with a very intense gaze, widows peak, and this tux that probably would have been very nice other than the fact that the combined effect was painfully Vampire Lestat.

But serious. Pick out a jacket style, tie style, vest or cummerbund, shoes, colors for everything, boom you're done. Simple, easy, and the best part is when you're done, you friggin' return it. Why isn't there some sort of modular formal garment like that for women? Maybe there's no real way to make it work in a western clothing paradigm... cause I don't think there's a garment that would work in a modular way like that. kimonos and saris on the other hand... Bah, I'm babbling.

So yeah. That made me into a bubble of manic joy this afternoon. And at some point next month I get to pick up a tux. I win everything. :) Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] morlock.

The problem with crashing early is that now, at 2am, I'm wide awake but I don't really have the impetus to do anything. Like I really should go wash the dishes. Do I feel like it? hell no. *sigh* I guess I needed the sleep but meh...

Back to Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter I guess.

again!

kjpepper: (don't panic)
Life is hard
And so am i
You'd better give me something
So i don't die

Novocaine for the soul
Before i sputter out

Life is white
And i am black
Jesus and his lawyer
Are coming back
Oh my darling
Will you be here
Before i sputter out

Guess whose living here
With the great undead
This paint-by-numbers life
Is fucking with my head
Once again

Life is good
And i feel great
'cause mother says i was
A great mistake

Novocaine for the soul
You'd better give me something
To fill the hole
Before i sputter out
