The Random Question Meme! )

I actually like this one better than the other one that was going around. Hell, lets do it again:

The Random Question Meme! Take 2! )

okay I'm a tool and third time's the charm... then I'm going to bed.

The Random Question Meme! Take 3! )

and oh look, the dryer stopped spinning. Good night.

Holy crap. That ther's a BIG FUCKING STORM. [livejournal.com profile] athene, I hope your family's getting the fuck out of dodge.

Today was spent being mopey and depressed, but this morning [livejournal.com profile] anzovin brought over a movie he's working on and DVDs of shorts screened at this summer's SIGGRAPH. (I still have to get to one of those before I die so that my inner 16 year old can go out happy). Some of them were eye-poppingly cool, some of them were a bit too goth and weird for me, and holy crap, most of them were inexplicably French. Apparently there are some big players in the animation department over in Crepeland.

Most of the examples had web sites - I'll list them here for those of you with broadband and a few minutes to be dazzled/amused/creeped out, along with my take on them. Enjoy.
  • La Migration Bigoudenn - This one's just charmingly surreal and sweet. Especially if you like pancakes.

  • Cubic Tragedy - If you've done ANY 3D modeling this is a scream.

  • Overtime - I'm not sure if this would creep out [livejournal.com profile] jaicat and [livejournal.com profile] morlock (my resident Muppet drooling fanpeople), or if they'd like it... no actually [livejournal.com profile] jaicat would like it. [livejournal.com profile] morlock would have nightmares. Anyway, I liked it, specially if you think of it as a creepy tribute to Jim Henson.

  • Fallen Art - ok, this is just twisted. But funny in a City of Lost Children sort of way. Specially since sundart was all horrified that I wanted to make an animated icon out of the "art."

  • In the Rough - Eye rollingly silly, but well and amusingly animated.

  • Jona/Tomberry - This one hurt my brain... Think Matrix meets City of Lost Children meets Neil Gaiman meets Marilyn Manson meets Prospero's Books. Fuuuuuuuuuuucked up.

  • Scent of a Robot - The video's charmingly fucked up, but I found myself liking the song too. :)
I haven't finished paging through the DVDs yet, and some of the shorts I liked I couldn't find links for. But this is a good start. Let me know what y'alls think.

There's a meme going around where you post the fifth sentence of your 23rd post. I wasn't really going to do it (I hate the ones where you have to tag people, and I know some folk find such things annoying - including me when people post them without the innovative lj-cut technology). But when the sentence in question is "The chansaw [sic] wielding freaks never smite their victims charging down Fifth Avenue," it's kind of criminal not to share.

what does [sic] mean anyway?

I was just forcefed Lilo and Stitch, which I had never seen before. It was surprisingly sweet and tasty. And completely cracked. *shakes fist* I poop on Disney for closing their 2D department after cranking out lame sequel crap. Bah. But this was good. And now I've seen it, so y'alls can shut up now. And yes, I'm working on firefly. Myeh.

*sigh* cranky and hostile this evening. Not sure why, and all hormone related reasons have been eliminated. Eh. It was that sort of day. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.
