Of course, doing the dance to the Dick Dale version seriously risks breaking something (I know, I tried when I got home). It's actually supposed to be HALF that speed, if not slower. I was quite amused that Joanne had actually never seen Pulp Fiction; it's funny how some music trickles into pop culture consciousness and by which routes it does so...

Dance class was good last night, in case you couldn't tell. Besides the above revalation, Joanne brought in a live music group for her classes. I love dancing to live music, the energy is so different. That and for some reason I'm so much less shy about dancing to it than I am about dancing to a recording. I don't know it's weird, I'm weird, k move on. Anyway class pretty much made what was an otherwise fairly crappy day.

Thoughts on Onomatopoeia

first of all, "Onomatopoeia". My deepest respect to anyone who can spell that word off hand, without having to stall for time by asking for how it can be used in a sentence. I had to friggin look it up, and it's bloody hard looking up how to spell something you have no hope of even approximating how to spell in the first place.

But seriously, my thought for the day concerns a particular example of the above. Actually not even. It's really merely an amusing sound effect. I'm of course referring to the phrase "bow-chicka-wow-wow" as a general catch all and somewhat musical euphemism for having sex. I'm wondering how the hell that entered the public consciousness? I mean it's clearly a reference to the seriously bad 70s era music that accompanied that time period's porn, but I'm wondering how it got codified into that one phrase. I know a lot of you are going to be all "Dude, that totally came from Red vs. Blue" but come on, it had to be around longer than that, and I seriously doubt it all originated from there becuase I know people who have had no possible exposure to RvB by any degree of hands who know EXACTLY what you mean when you say (sing?) it.

Anyhoo, that's my deep thought of the day.
