I had a quiet Halloween night after work - walked through Northampton after meeting [livejournal.com profile] morlock at the Haymarket, and was amused at the kids doing the downtown trick or treating up and down main street. Was a little disappointed in their parents, who for the most part, didn't bother and mostly looked annoyed having to take Batman and Fairy princess out for candy. However the few ENTIRE FAMILIES I saw decked out for the holiday were made of ultimate win. I'm also a little surprised that no one recognizes the Mad Hatter anymore. I got a few thumbs up and enthusiastic compliments but I got many more "and who are you today's?" Sheesh. People don't read.

Since we got maybe five trick or treaters last year (not a big kid neighborhood where we are) we didn't bother doing candy this year, and most of the house was gone for the evening so it was mostly just me [livejournal.com profile] morlock and MSNBC last night. And of course what do [livejournal.com profile] morlock and I do when there's really nothing else to do? We talk. A lot. About seriously painful shit. *sigh* Much like the rest of the country, I suppose, I'd love it if some fun amount of money came drifting out of the sky somehow and landed on myself and a few other people in my life right now, cause it's getting to the point where all of us staying here is getting not worth any money we're saving.

Being what day it is, I've been thinking quite a bit about death. The 24th was the fourth anniversary of Mom's passing, which, this year for some reason is hitting me harder than usual, and I did lose a friend earlier this year whom I've been thinking about constantly since. So those two people are very much on my mind... Also it seems like whenever I need to be hit over the head with a clue by eight, the universe almost kills me but not really. But seriously... Getting hit with a car? Pulmonary Embolism? Intestinal perforation? WTF? I've concluded that either I'm extremely lucky, or I am, in fact, a superhero and never knew it until now.

Finally, something else I've been thinking about a lot. Yes it's another clip from Repo! and yes, I'm obsessed, shut up. But the lyrics seem particularly resonant for me right now.

CHASE THE MORNING

I need to start chasing my mornings. You know, as long as that doesn't involve lifting anything greater than 10lbs for the next couple months.

Also, how history would be so much more interesting and fun if Julius Ceasar could have shot Force Lightning from his fingers a la Emperor Palpatine. As [livejournal.com profile] grinninfoole put it, "Et tu, Brute?" *BZZZOT*

Good party though. Pumpkin bread, cider, and a naughty cat that almost succeeded in making off with a cucumber sandwich. Oh and Apples to Apples.

ETA: and now a meme:

Supposedly if you've seen over 85 films, you have no life. There are 270 films on this list. Copy it, paste it into a new post and then put x's next to the films you've seen. Add them up and post at the bottom. Have fun!

ETA2: no life? who wrote this, a 14yo?

A large hodgepodge of movies, 108 of which i have seen. )
