Actually, it wasn't that bad. No, seriously. It wasn't spectacular, but overall it was pretty okay. There were a few what-teh-fuck moments, and the saccharine happy ending that I only was mad about because Calvin didn't get to kiss Meg (come on, he did in the book!) Anything wrong with the movie was adequately made up for by the rendering of the dark planet which was quite satisfactorily creepy and they did the everyone doing everything in rhythm really well, though there should have been more brain and less snotty guy with red eyes damn it.

Random MST3K that you'll only get if you watch Queer As Folk: The guy who played the father was the same guy who played the doctor Michael was dating on the first season of QAF. For the first half of the movie, this guy's character was missing, and every so often one of the other characters would wonder where he was until finally someone yelled "He's in Pittsburgh, butt-humping Michael!" *giggle*

Coffee bad. Tree pretty.

[livejournal.com profile] beatgoddess isn't doing so hot. [livejournal.com profile] primitive_boy apparently told her he'd cheated on her before the whole "I wanna move out" revelation a few months ago. More details waft in from the study where she's talking to someone or other about it, but not enough to know what's really going on. Highly ironic that randomly this afternoon we happened across one of those chair throwing bitch slapping episodes of Maury where the chicks admit they cheated on their boyz through carefully applied mascara and french manicures and the guys have to fail polygraphs before they'll own up to their proclivities. We were enjoying it too, as it brought back memories of GirlLand lunchtimes when a small cult of people would park themselves in front of the house TV to watch Jerry Springer.

The universe has a sick sense of humor. *sigh*

i liked the dark planet. however, i thought the characterizations were by and large ridiculously incorrect. I mean, Meg is supposed to be a glasses-wearing dorky girl in a kilt! NOT A BABYDYKE!

Also, points off for the low-budget CGI. Mrs. Whatsit as a horse was weird and creepy. Did you notice how they didn't spring for facial expressions?

oh, and re: the rest of your entry.

Camazotz was well done. And I liked Movie!Meg. Will be making an icon, shortly. The CG was notsogood, but OK for television work. The sad part was that I was casting it all in my head as I went along.
