Dec. 18th, 1988 06:00 pmToday was mostly depressing. We saw ALVIN AILEY. I hated it. But we got the Christmas Tree! But Ma was in a bad mood. So was Nuke (my sister). Coockoo day!
first of all,
beatgoddess, I know what you're thinking. Shut up!
This was the era of Dad being all about the ballet (since I was doing the whole ballet thing at the time) so during the weekends he would take us to the American Ballet Theater, and the NYC Ballet, and the Joffrey Ballet's Nutcracker, and being all "support the colored dancers!" we also had to make obligatory visits to whatever Alvin Ailey and the Dance Theater of Harlem were up to. I really liked the Dance Theater of Harlem (and was really amused when they did their spot for laundry detergent some years later that involved pulling athletic socks over toe shoes and wearing them through a rehearsal) but I remember Alvin Ailey always bored me silly.
