kjpepper: (underpants!)

Looks like the last of the thunderstorms (not thudgerstorms, like I originally typed... thudger thudger thudger thudger thudger thudger thudger thudger thudger thudger thudger lightning lightning...) blew through yesterday afternoon. Today is perfect. Sunny and and... nice. Not baking, not soupy, not cold, but nicely cool and breezy. Yay.

Went to work for a couple of hours yesterday, then hopped the bus to Amherst at noon to meet up with [livejournal.com profile] sydneycat (we were actually supposed to get together yesterday, Friday was kind of a I feel like crap/oh you do? lets go out/okay! type of thing. ;) ) I was actually supposed to meet her at 1:30 - 2 ish, but bus was there so I took it and I got there WAY early. I had a bit of breakfast at Bart's and was going to go exploring (I'm not all that familiar with Amherst) but when I got there it had started storming, so I ate up the remaining time by doodling in one of my paper journals instead of actually writing in it - somehow I was more in the mode for drawing, and sometimes, especially when the brain is full, a good way to calm it is to sketch whats around me and abstract cartoons. I got a very nice sketch of the overhead lamps, the little old lady eating her sandwich outside, and a funny cartoon of how much the torrential downpour outside kinda sucked. I also did a seriously bad sketch of a minivan parked outside - right then the powers of perspective had deserted me utterly. But then again I've always been abysmal at drawing cars.

anyhow, [livejournal.com profile] sydneycat showed up, and I spent the remainder of the day at her place hanging out with her and [livejournal.com profile] morlock watching Blade (heh, we never did get around to watching the second one), Invader Zim, and much Olympic coverage, which I'm vastly irritated with, due to the fact that they keep jumping between the events and only showing highlights and never a full thing from beginning to end. Graaaggh, like I'm going to pay for payper view coverage. Not to mention the propaganda and purposeful heartstring tugging surrounding the Iraqi and Afghani teams. Really. But it was fun watching the diving and swimming and the women's 100 meter where we were just waiting for the cute black chickie who won the silver in that event to mention Jesus or God or something when they interviewed her afterwards (which she did. Grrr. For once can a non-Christian African-American win something? Yes, yes, the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost know you're grateful. Give some props to your parents or cheering squad or Allah or Kali or the Goddess or something. No, I'm not anti-Christian... but [livejournal.com profile] morlock did have it pegged when he responded to my complaint about gangsta rap stars' acceptance speeches... "I'd like to thank Jesus for my new number 1 single... it's called "Fuck Yo' Mother!")

Sorry, ranting.

oh! [livejournal.com profile] morlock made yummy dinner! chicken (of course), pasta, and corn on the cobby goodness. The corn was massively yummy too, very very sweet. :)

Hmm, may also have found a crazy black hairdresser to try out. I should say another crazy black hairdresser, as there's the spot in Northampton too that [livejournal.com profile] beatgoddess found a while's back that I also wanna check out. Anyway, there was this chick in a blond weave (heh, my old crazy black hairdresser back in NY had one of those too, go figure!) that we ran into in the Amherst Stop n' Poo that used to do [livejournal.com profile] morlock's mom's hair, and she gave me her card, so... whee. Seriously though, need to go somewhere. I'm kinda overdue for a deep condition, press and oil sheen, not to mention I would like sometime to have someone else split my hair into ridiculously precise cornroes before braiding yarn into it. Shit. I should have stopped in Sally's while we were there, I broke the comb attachment to my hair dryer last week...

Sorry, the B-girl that lives in here somewhere rose up to kill us all (theoretically) for a second there. :) I'll stop bitching about the 'fro now.

So far today has been a bit of breakfast at Bickford's. Not sure how I'm going to dispose of the rest of it really. I'd flopped my work schedule to the afternoon tomorrow because I thought I was going to be in NY today (so I can stay up late tonight with impunity, as opposed to when I stay up late anyway but then have to be at work at 9), but between the storms, the fact that I'm still - let's face it - minorly under the weather, and the fact that motivation to do anything remotely constructive has been oh, nil, it wasn't happening. Next weekend for sure though, otherwise folks are going to get mad at me. Not to mention that I don't really want to forget the feeling of insta-ground the city evokes in me. Home again home again niggity nig indeed. Well, perhaps, depending on how much work I get done this week, I'll see if I can take Friday off and nip down a bit early? we'll see. we'll see.

Perhaps after I'm done with this and hop in the shower, I will cozy up on the couch, watch the Law & Order eps that I've missed before [livejournal.com profile] beatgoddess sends the DVDs back, and thoroughly reason with the 'fro. And wait for beatfag to wake up and sunny to come home (ha). Yeah, that sounds like a good late afternoon/evening... :)

hugs for all reading this!
