All Hallows
Nov. 1st, 2004 09:40 amI went a wanderin' last night.
Technically I was supposed to go a wanderin' today, but somehow going last night seemed more fitting, a long moonlit walk on Halloween/Samhain. Besides, this way I got to leave sunny's soul cakes at crossroads passed.
I ended up walking out to Hadley, probably six or seven miles in all, two hours because I wasn't in any big rush. Got quite a bit of thinking done, said some prayers for Mom and Mary E, and soaked up the light of the waning moon, felt the breeze on my face, and stood in a shower of the last falling leaves, welcoming in November. It was a good walk overall - got to actually read the old sign by the bridge about Hadley's origins, and experience firsthand what a deer feels like when a tractor-trailor barrels down upon them at warp speed, except without the roadkill aspects. (still scary tho, next time I'm walking cross the river on the bike path, no matter how friggin dark it is.) And at the end of the trip, I got to curl up with a sad, stressed boy and hold him until he went to sleep.
First of the month. I'm going back to work today, I've scrubbed the goddamn floor, and now, time to work out a few things. It's the dark of the year, the light and the warmth are fading, and yet I think the next two months will be a good time for me. We all know I work best in the dark anyways.
