kjpepper: (new york city)

[EDIT] whoops, livejournal markup error, half my post went boom. fixed now.

I forget that being a new yorker just makes you for walking. And if you weren't before, you definitely will be after a few days just roaming around manhattan. I definitely recalled my high school days, when walking across the Brooklyn Bridge up to 34 Street and Broadway seemed like nothing. Most of me remembers that fondly. My thighs, however, do not. :)

I spent most of yesterday roaming the city and yammering with [livejournal.com profile] aisha7576, whom I had not seem in probably about 2 years... She'd been going through a rough patch lately, so for a bit of the time, I let her vent, occasionally interjecting with humor and my own experiences with some of the challenges she's facing. And the other bit we spent catching up. I miss spending eight or so hours just talking with someone, sharing experieces, making fun of the shitty stuff, just shooting the shit as it were. Course long conversation usually comes with long car rides, and it's been a little bit since I've taken one of those. But anyway we talked about all sorts of things, I processed some things that have been worrying me since Mom's death, I got to tell her about the good crazy going on in my life right now, and we had a lot of in depth discussion about how the city as a single living entity has dramatically changed since 9/11, how superficial it's gotten. I was glad to see when we finally parted ways on 6th avenue that she felt better and seemed quite a bit less tense after our time together.

[livejournal.com profile] sydneycat & [livejournal.com profile] gossamer_gull, OMGOMGOMG I saw some seriously cool shit at the Ink Pad yesterday... welcome to the wide world of awesome things to do with paper punches! remind me to tell you about it when I get back. Especially since someone plans on doing invitations at some point... ;)

The season opening home game of the NY Knicks was tonight, and of course Penuche had to work the game so there was a ticket in the offing but I opted not to go. (glad I didn't - they got slaughtered by the Celtics, much to the probable elation of the basketball fans back in Mass). Still it was really funny seeing the Empire state building and the Metropolitan Life building lit up in blue and orange tonight. Can't say NYers don't have team spirit.

Does anyone know of any fundraising events in NY or charities that might like an Avon representitive pitching in to raise monies? [livejournal.com profile] aisha7576 is looking to expand her clientele, but wants to support a good cause doing it, considering she's probably one of the most "conscious" people I know. Also, [livejournal.com profile] jaicat - weren't you working with a group that socializes kitties? She'd like some info on that too, provided I'm not actually smoking crack on this one.

Today I go to brunch with the fam (which means I gotta jump in my clothes now), and then, considering traffic's completely fucked up in the city today (gotta love the NYMarathon!), I'm heading back on the train. Pray I catch the 3:30, otherwise I'm gonna have to whore myself for a ride from Springfield, armpit of Western Mass.
