I currently sit at
morlock's computer trying to figure out why his winXP user profiles aren't loading correctly. There are times when I truly loathe this OS...
Yesterday was middling at best. Basically the high points (seeing Ocean's 12 with the Wonderkittens, going for pizza with Angelgrrl and JJ during lunch) were mostly cancelled out by other assular aspects of it (cold and rainy, staying at work an hour and a half later than intended, bickering crabbily with and at
sundart on our way to the mall, scaring myself shitless by nearly losing my cell after the movie (luckily it was merely eaten by the Shortbus, and not left in the theater), not to mention the compound effects of all four of the aformentioned kitties having days that ranged from bleh to no-seriously-dude-the-gods-HATE-me).
The movie itself kicked ass. Not quite as much ass as Ocean's 11 (there were a few points where the pace lagged, whereas the first one fairly hurtled through its two hours), but definitely worth seeing. I swear, this is one of those sets of movies where you don't really watch for the plot, you watch simply so you can sit around and hear what the next batshit thing that comes out of the characters' mouths is going to be. This movie was definitely stronger in the dialogue and the character dynamics than really in the plot (which was on the silly side, though it was executed decently - the plot for the first one was much tighter and much more focused).
High points: the return of the entire original cast, even the bit players; appearances by Robbie Coltrane, a scruffy, but no less fussy Eddie Izzard (OMGYay!), and Vincent Cassell, for whom I'm starting to develop a massive hard on. (He's funny-looking, but I've liked everything he's been in that I've seen so far, and I'm amused that his French accent (put to great use in Shrek and here) is pure affectation - he actually speaks quite accentless English) It's also beyond weird to see Albert Finney with hair - I think he's permanently etched into my brain as Daddy Warbucks.
Eh points: Some of the bigger laughs in the movie are going to end up dating the picture ("You didn't have to go all Frankie Muniz on the place!" ...not to mention the entire pregnant Julia Roberts farce - there were better ways to have pulled the same stunt), which is a little sad as they could have gone for just as funny without the three million pop culture references - the first one was pretty good about that, the only reference really being the bit about Ted Nugent wanting the shirt back. But for now, they were funny. (And for the record, George Clooney is 43.) I really had a good time with this one, and my criticisms are merely nitpicky - I'm still probably going to pick up this and Ocean's 11 on DVD at some point, plus I would like to see the original Rat Pack version at some point.
Another high point to the movie - OMG, that Angelina Jolie/Brad Pitt spy movie looks like wonderful eye candy. There is something about that woman handling a very large gun that... really does it for me.
I ended up finishing the night at the f4rmh0u5e, watching the first four eps of Tailspin and cuddling a very sad
morlock. Later I think I'm going to head to JoAnn Fabrics and see about finding grommets for the leotard, then go home and do hexmas presents and cards, but for now... *sigh* back to beating this computer into submission.
Note: thank the Goddess I had the foresight to ctrl-A copy the entire entry before hitting "Update." Ha ha, LJ, you thought you had my entry this time, but I have verily snatched it back from your voracious entry-eating jaws. Take that, bitch! And word to the rest of y'all - never EVER use Rich text mode if you update this thing with the web page thing.
