So last night was awesome beyond the capacity to speak about how awesome it was.

The diner get together went well - the turnout was a bit smaller than expected, but I and mine and [livejournal.com profile] htl_1126's and hers got on quite well. :) Well it's always having a new audience to tell stories/explain digestive woes to! Plus this was the first time I truly got to appreciate [livejournal.com profile] kahlan9386, who really is adorable in her big brown puppy-dog brown eyed curvy cuteness. :) [livejournal.com profile] drklord1922, glad for the change to hang out, yay, I'm still horrificly embarrassed by the handle screw up, but you took it with humor, kudos. And [livejournal.com profile] htl_1126, what can I say, I'm glad we ultimately proved Timmycakes right about the two of us. *hugs* ;)

And then... there was movie!!!!

Y'know. I didn't even care that the print was all scratchy. (Honestly nothing was as bad as the half fried print of Logan's Run the theater screened ages ago.) Goodness knows I've watched crappy copies of this movie my whole life cause when I was a kid I wore my copy of the tape out, cause from age 9 to age 15 or so I literally watched TPB once or twice a week. So I know the entire script by heart, not to mention the soundtrack cues and camera angles.

Now. If you think THAT'S scary, imagine... being in a packed, sold out theater of people like that. I swear, the ENTIRE theater was quoting along very audibly. Especially every time Vizzini said "Inconcievable!" But I think what a large audience really did for the movie was bring to the focus that this movie's a comedy. A quite ridiculous one too.

It had actually been a little while since I had seen the movie last (like, actually at least a year or so, which for me is inconcievable), so there were some things I got to appreciate anew:
  • I totally didn't realize that the scene in Shrek where Farquaad is announcing the tournament to Duloc that it's nearly a shot by shot reference to when Humperdink presents Buttercup to Florin.

  • Dead God, what is that thing... on Buttercup's head in that same scene?

  • Oh, Fezzik. Talk about the world's sweetest, most agreeable giant. RIP, Andre.

  • Humperdink and Count Rugen are totally ass pirating butt buddies. "If you haven't got your health..." And good god, the dresses they run around in!

  • the shrieking eel scene, when it cuts back to Grandpa and the kid, I didn't realize the kid was actually nervous to the point of scrunching up his blankets so hard his knuckles were white. Oh, I'm sorry, he was concerned, not the same thing.

  • The swordfight is utterly breathtaking on screen. Even if you can totally see the sand covered crash mats.

  • Discovering that [livejournal.com profile] morlock is disturbingly good at mimicking R2D2's whistle and beeping. Reason being that we and several other people were making snarky Dagobah comments when Westley and Buttercup first walk into the fire swamp. "Never survive, we will."

  • Humperdink: If Westley wants you, bless you both. If not... please consider me as an alternative to suicide?
Chickie in third row: I wouldn't!

  • Humperdink: I could never cause you pain...
    Me: *cough*bullshit*cough*

  • Entire theater + Impressive Clergyman: And Wove, twue wove, wiww fowwow you, fowevaw...

  • thunderous applause after "I want my father back, you son of a bitch!"

  • I never noticed before that Inigo painstakingly returns every single wound that Count Rugen gave him in exactly reverse order as he received them (left shoulder, right shoulder, left cheek, right cheek and the exception being the gut wound, which Inigo obviously does last and quite fatally).

  • never did understand how Inigo suddenly knew that the Princess was The Man In Black's true love. teh fuck?

  • and the mystery that will plague me for the rest of my days, what the hell is Miracle Max saying right before he takes the job? It sounds a lot like "I'm gonna lick the dalmation" but I know that's not right.

I loved seeing everyone last night (too many folk to mention by name so I'll just say hugs for everyone and THANK YOU for helping me and mine conquer and defeat an ENTIRE ROW of the theater some of you! Knyght and the Paladin - hugs, I hope you got home ok (going to go check the caller ID now and see if you gave me a call). And [livejournal.com profile] lordaerith, put me out of my misery, 'cause I can't for the life of me figure out whether you were actually kidding about the string bass (in which case I feel dumb for not being absolutely sure) or dead serious, (in which case I'm a total asshole for making fun of you and I'm sorry).

Next month is Ghostbusters. Squee.

Post movie was a little bit of quiet time with the boy, and then some OMG-it's-late-so-hangings-out-basically-now-consists-of-snoring time with [livejournal.com profile] sydneycat, [livejournal.com profile] bluewindkitsune, [livejournal.com profile] theharbinger and Ivy, whom they'd not yet met. Somehow fell asleep on sydmor's couch around 3:45, woke up four hours later somewhat confused, understandibly.

Not much planned for today other than staunchly avoiding the Teddy Bear Fest going on outside our windows this weekend, watching sydmor's appliances being delivered, and taking it easy - it's been a seriously hard week, and I intend to chill the fuck out today.maybe work on a picture or two. :) But first, need to go down to my house, get out of these clothes, and make breakfast. mmmm, coffee....

I recently saw Office Space at a theater that only plays older stuff called The Alamo. They know actually have several spots in town and some play first-run stuff, but not the original downtown location. Stuff on screen before the movie, rather than inane Coca-Cola factoids, consists of the weirdest shit you will ever see that has *anything* to do with the upcoming movie. Before chop-saki flicks, they'll play stuff like Japanese game show footage where contestants do horrible things to themselves ala Fear Factor, but worse. All sorts of trailers for 70's blaxploitation movies before one of their free-Schiltz-Malt-Liquor movie nights. This taping of a Wayne Newton special in Vegas where he goes on for fucking *ever* about how great it is to be with them and with his family, and let's bring them out one by one and go on some more! Including, 15 minutes later, each of his dogs - this before the MST3K-like local Xmas special. Shit like that.
And when they play an old favorite, the people are there to cheer, quote grumble as one. If they can get a member of the film to show up, as they did for Office Space, they will. It's always a blast. Exactly the kind of theater experience I'd love to create myself in my own theater.

You can search Princess Bride script on google. Not sure if this one is accurate, but:

Valerie: Humperdinck!
Max: Ahh!!
Valerie: Humperdinck!
Max: Ahh!!
Valerie: [now in a sing-songy voice] Humperdinck.... Humperdinck!
Humperdinck! Humperdinck! Humperdinck!
Max: I'm not listening!
Valerie: True love, life expiring and you don't have the decency to say why you
won't help!
Max: Nobody's hearing nothing!
Valerie: Humperdinck! [She continues to yell 'Humperdinck']
Inigo: [interrupting] This is Buttercup's true love. If you heal him, he will
stop Humperdinck's wedding!
Max: [to Valerie] Shut up!
Inigo: Thank you. Thank you.
Max: Wait, wait. I make him better, Humperdinck suffers?
Inigo: Humiliations galore!
Max: Ha ha!! That is a noble cause! Give me the sixty-five! I'm on the job!

[Max, with help from Valerie concocts a pill for Westley.]

Inigo: That's a miracle pill?
Valerie: The chocolate coating makes it go down easier. But, you have to wait
fifteen minutes before potency. And, he shouldn't go in swimming after
for at least...
Max: [jumping in] An hour!
Valerie: An hour.
Max: ...A good hour.....Here. [gives Inigo the pill]
Inigo: [leaving] Thank you for everything.
Max: Okay! [Inigo and Fezzik leave]
Valerie: Bye bye, boys!
Max: Have fun storming the castle!
Valerie: [to Max] Think it will work?
Max: It would take a miracle.
Max and Valerie: [waving] B-bye!
