So it turned out that my frustration with the household network project was unfounded last night, as magically this evening, upon switching to Netscape, Master Freak immediately began to purr along at as close to breakneck speed as a seven year old Aptiva can get. *shakes head* This machine has a mind of its own, I swear. Long story short, two of the necessary three machines are now are burbling away happily on broadbandy goodness. yay. Still to figure out - how to get the mac all burbly too. Stay tuned.

In the meantime I did have about ten minutes of frustration while trying to get the short co-ax we own out of the study wall with little success until I at last found the little wrench we do own, but before then my head was modifying the proverb about the horseshoe nail along these lines:

For lack of a wrench, the co-ax was lost;
For lack of a co-ax, the modem was lost;
For lack of a modem, the router was lost;
For lack of a router, the network was lost;
For lack of a network, the internet was lost;
For lack of the internet the happiness was lost...
and all for the want of one goddamn fucking adjustable wrench!

tee hee.

Otherwise, today was . . . not exactly bad, but I woke up in a low grade depression that pretty much stayed with me until I began tinkering with the network, intensifying and ebbing at regular intervals. Probably didn't help that I was listening to "Hooked" a whole heck of a lot at work, on the bike ride to the eye doctors (pickng up another copy of sweet butter perscription). Especially that line about thinking the inconceivable ("you keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.") and desiring the untouchable. Follow this up with Fictional's "Blue Lights" and we've got the soundtrack to a full blown angst fest.

Lucky for me, a spontaneous trip to D'angelo's for dinner (thanks [livejournal.com profile] beatgoddess for getting us all out of the house!) and a good hour of wandering around Staples helped (mmm, sweet buttery back-to-school season . . .) but sitting in the study with my own . . . personal . . . broadband (yes, I'm channeling Depeche Mode, shoot me) and listening to beatgirl's To Guam mix playing in the Mac reminded me of what a shitty day I had actually been having, and boy am I glad it's over. Ah, the power combination of Portishead and Dead Can Dance . . .

[livejournal.com profile] sundart and I are going to the Holyoke Mall tomorrow to obtain new glasses. I personally amquite excited about this prospect, as my current frames are corroding fiercely, and as a result are corroding in turn the skin behind my ears. I have a line of thin scar tissue behind both just where it has been peeling continuously for about a year and a half. Definitly glad to put an end to that. And I need AR coating. yay no more headaches from achy bright computer screens.

Whoa, it's nearly 3 am. I should sleep now.
