Oh thank Bubba.

My power cord arrived finally yesterday. Soooo good to have Little Beavis back online! Yay. We'll ignore the fact that the battery isn't charging. :) Battery schmoo. I probably need to replace it anyway at this point.

So nice to have my own fucking computer again tho! Though I've been trying keep up in short burst throughout the week, I feel like I can now _really_ catch up.

First of all - Sunday night I went over to [livejournal.com profile] beatgoddess' for a night of John Munch worship, since she has the first five seasons of Homicide Life on the Street on DVD. We didn't watch eps in order or anything - it was kind of an impromptu "Best Of" night. It disturbs me how much Yaphet Kotto reminds me of Dad. It's got to be an old, non-originally-American Black man thing... or maybe not. M. Bassene didn't remind me of Dad. eh. *shrug* but yes, a good time was had, horrible strawberry whoopi pies were consumed, and I got to get four months worth of Loafing Negro out of my system. Whee.

Lets see, what else did I miss? I covered Haven... Oh! I got my birthday present from [livejournal.com profile] morlock on Monday - a phone upgrade! I now have a Nokia 6820 - the next gen up from my beloved 6800. It's smaller, has bluetooth, and a camera, but it's essentially the same phone. I'm thrilled with it. and once I finally get my tones moved over from phone #1, I'll be ecstatic. meanwhile the phone's previous owner left a couple of tones on there, including the Wallace and Gromit theme, which I'm currently using.

I would also like to note that I think [livejournal.com profile] sydneycat and I are going to make a tradition out of Monday night Raw. Good God, pro wrestling is so dramatic and homosocial. I swear. Soap operas for men. And yet... so fascinating.

Hmm, lessee I managed to cover the week pretty well... ah. Friday night. Friday night [livejournal.com profile] sydneycat made birthday dinner for the three Libras in the amoeba, which kicked ass - a lovely chicken stew in bread bowls! That woman can cook. :)

So, we come to yesterday! I got dressed up in fabulous purple velvet and stuff, and then I went to work for a bit, and I actually got a good chunk of work done as well as hang out a little with R and her doggies. Then after marveling at the sight of real actual sunshine, I got together with [livejournal.com profile] morlock and we drove down to the HuKeLau to watch the Caroline Rhea show, which was pretty kickass. Even the opening act was good, once the comic hit his stride and started snarking on the Big Y. Which, now that I think about it, is a really stupid name for a supermarket chain. And she herself is even more perky and adorable in person than she is on TV. [livejournal.com profile] morlock and I had a fabulous time, and I got a big fat kissy thank you in the parking lot.

Afterwards was nice too, got some quality time with the boy and got to wake up for the first time in godfuckforever with the sunshine pouring in my window. :)

and now, a meme, courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] innostrantsa:

1. Name someone with the same birthday as you.
Bishop Desmond Tutu's the one that comes to mind. Also this kid Michael Tracy in my first grade class.

2. Where was your first kiss?
In a movie theater on tenth avenue, during a showing of The Paper with [livejournal.com profile] harinezumi.

3. Have you ever seriously vandalized someone else's property?
I broke someone's locker lock once by stuffing paper up the keyhole.

4. Have you ever hit on someone of the opposite sex?
sure.

5. Have you ever sung in front of a large number of people?
It's called the UNIS Concert Choir. Every three months or so my school would trot out the more vocally talented little kids in national costume and make them go sing for whatever dignitary was in town that evening. I had to do that a few times. I probably still know the harmony part to "Let There Be Peace on Earth."

6. What's the first thing you notice about the preferred sex?
I don't really have one. but I'm a sucker for dimples.

7. What really turns you on?
musical talent of any sort. Can we say boys that sing?

8. What do you order at Starbucks?
Going to starbucks stopped being fun when I graduated high school, considering that's when they started taking over New York like a really bad rash. But if I am there, that would be a Venti cappucino with a couple of extra espresso shots.

9. What is your biggest mistake?
oh god. I've made quite a few. but if I hadn't I wouldn't be here and who I am. I guess that's something.

10. Ever hurt yourself on purpose?
yes

11. Say something totally random about you.
my toes are cold.

12. Has anyone ever said you looked like a celebrity?
I got compared to Rudy Huxtable a lot growing up. Now that we're both grown I think I can safely say I turned out cuter. *smirk*

13. Do you still watch kiddy movies or tv shows?
Of course. This is why I get stuck watching Dora the Explorer with the little'uns during holidays. Swiper, no swiping!

14. Did you have braces?
Three years. Ugh. At least I had the ceramic ones in front. And a dentist that was willing to put a different color rubber band around each brace according to my specifications. But OW DAMN they hurt.

15. Are you comfortable with your height?
Believe it or not I grew up with a bit of a complex about my height cause my siblings (all 5'10" and above) would refer to my mother and I as being the family shrimps. I'm better about it now. 5'8" is perfectly respectable.

16. What is the most romantic thing someone of the preferred sex has done for you?
I'm not getting gushy here. :P

17. When do you know it's love?
usually after the "wait, OMG WTF??"s have worn off.

18. Do you speak any other languages?
poorly. :) Well no. I can read, understand and speak french passably, quite a bit less passably in Russian. I discovered yesterday that I could sort of follow an anime without looking at the subtitles, but other than a couple of phrases, I can't speak it, and forget reading it!

19. Have you ever been to a tanning salon?
The one called Genetics.

20. What magazines do you read?
Don't read them much... Right now I'm down to Entertainment Weekly and Fantasy and Science Fiction. Occasionally I've been known to pick up a People, but I'm so furtive about it you'd think I was buying porn or something.

21. Have you ever ridden in a limo?
Yes. They're wicked fun. Especially when the driver's nice enough to take a detour to Stop and Shop on the way home. :)

22. Has anyone you were really close with passed away?
Yeah.

23. Do you watch MTV?
Not since Alternative Nation went off the air

24. What's something that really annoys you?
Snotty rich asshats that like to pretend they aren't racists. Had to deal with one yesterday.

25. What's something you really like?
Fine chocolate, homemade ice cream, local cider, deep sexy mornings... the list goes on.

26. Do you like Michael Jackson?
*sigh* The man is disturbed. Which is a pity cause I also think he's deeply talented. But I can't say I like him anymore.

27. Can you dance?
yes. But I liked innostrantsa's answer better. "My Negro Rhythm Gene kicked in sometime in high school, thereby saving me from a life of constant ridicule and shame."

28. What's the latest you have ever stayed up?
I had a couple of 36 hour runs...

29. Have you ever thought that you were honestly going to die?
Ever had a car hit you? yeah. It's not fun.

30. Have you ever been rushed by an ambulance into the emergency room?
Not with the sirens going, no.

Woohoo, on all accounts!

I'd forgotten about Alternative Nation-- wasn't that a weekend program, like 120m?

Sorry you can't get that "LTBPOE" harmony out of your head. Wanna swap it for the harmony to "Shenandoah"?
