I have reached the point where the whitespace in our apartment has at last driven me batshit.

We have the standard issue white walls in our apartment, and through a lack of money, sheer laziness, and a peculiar property of our walls that resists drilling screws into them (so we haven't managed to put up any shelves either) they've stubbornly remained white, with a few exceptions, things getting placed into frames we already had, for example. For a little while I tried hanging some of the posters we had using a jury rigged hanging system, but that didn't work out so well, so I had to take them down.

Mostly the problem was that for a while back in the beginning of her time at Cinemark, sunny would bring home some of the no longer needed theatrical and teaser posters from work, and the posters they hang up in theaters are larger than the posters you get elsewhere. (27" x 40") That noted, it's a little hard and a little expensive to find frames for them. And we're a little beyond just sticking stuff up on the walls with stickytack...

Anyway... yesterday, amidst trailing [livejournal.com profile] sydneycat around most of the day as she gathered present ideas (within her diminutive frame is a power shopper waiting to be unleashed - yikes no one told me this) we made a stop at Michaels, where I decided as an experiment to purchase one (1) oversize poster frame. I must have misread the labels, as they were trying to say that the frame I'd selected was scary expensive (which I sort of expected) but when I lugged the unwieldy thing to the register it was about a third of what I thought was the marked price. Goddamn. Gonna have to go back either today or Monday and get some more.

So now one of the movie posters is back on my wall. (The teaser for Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Ass. The one with the envelope.) And damn, is sexy.

So now, aided with some caffiene consumption, sunny and I are organizing our various pieces of decor, sorting through an entire bin of prints and photographs and art bits from all sorts of genres that we had amassed over the years. We sorted through the posters and figured out which ones to keep and which ones to give away/eBay/Freecycle. Up for grabs:
  • the theatrical poster for Blow (nice pic of Johnny Depp! - 27x40)
  • the teaser poster for Atlantis (27x40)
  • a concept collage of Queen Amidala (don't forget, that's "tonsil" in Spanish) from Episode I (regular poster size)
  • a weirdly sized laminated bit of print art from Rurouni Kenshin
All have a little bit of wear and tear, especially the big guys, since they actually were in use for a while, but are still quite framable.

Anyway, I'm wicked excited... specially since the next posters we're putting up are the theatrical poster from the last Wallace and Gromit movie and the Have A Night poster sunny gave me for a housewarming present (which has an interesting history in our household - basically framing it would be safer for it). Plus we're discussing smaller prints and frames for other places in the house, and playing with stuff we had. I'm especially happy about getting up a print sydneycat gave us during the move, that is much improved with the removal of a matte that was way too large and clunky for it - it will look better simply framed). That and I've concluded that I may have a cache of forgotten posters from college back at Castle Browne somewheres which might include some fun out of print stuff, like Kermit Klein and this black and white photo of Trent Reznor that was so gorgeous that there was a reason it hung over my bed...

On a similar note, I've finally begun going through the archive of photographs I've taken over the past couple of years in anticipation of finally putting up some sort of photo gallery on my web site. I figure if I'm going to pursue photography somewhat seriously I should have some past work on display.

anyway, I've got to run, as I'm going with [livejournal.com profile] anzovin and [livejournal.com profile] sundart to Northampton. They're going to M's for cooking and stuff, and I'm catching a ride to the office/laundromat - we need to do laundry, and since I'm there, I might as well do some work. :P
