Song of the day
Feb. 17th, 2006 09:29 pmI found myself wistfully thinking about Mom today as I waited for the bus in the wind after a really hard day at work... I found myself singing the song she would sing to me to make me laugh when I was bored or upset.
My gal's a corker - she's a New Yorker
I buy her everything to keep her in style
She's got a head of hair, just like a grizzly bear
Yessir, that's where my money goooooooooes
[replace italicized line with one of the below on each verse]
pair of eyes/two apple pies
runny nose/rubber hose
pair of legs/two whiskey kegs
pair of hips/two battleships
ad nauseum, pretty much. You could pretty much make up anything that rhymes with a body part (yep, I've done naughty bits and internal organs) to go in that third line. But yeah. Mom and I would sing that a lot when I was growing up - she even taught my third grade class to sing it on a bus trip to the Museum of Natural History.
I guess it still calms me down and makes me smile after all these years.
