So in Pandora, there's a little option that you click to see why exactly the computer chose the song currently playing.

Here's what they have to say about Assemblage 23's "Purgatory":

"Based on what you've told us so far, we're playing this track because it features electronica influences, extensive vamping, minor key tonality, groove based composition, and synthetic sonority."

(Emphasis mine.)

*dead dead and dead again from laughing*

I have to wonder what else they have catagorized as "extensive vamping."

Hate to break it to you, hon, but vamping is also a term used in music. It means (according to dictionary.com) "To improvise simple accompaniment or variation of a tune."

I was amused by your interpretation, though. *G*

Wow, you're totally right and that makes sense... d'oh, me dumbass.

So then Mozart can be accused of extensive vamping.

*giggle* Ok, it's still funny. Specially if you've seen Amadeus

Me = music dork. Yep, I was in the junior high and high school orchestras in my school(s).

And yes, Mozart, Beethoven, among others. *wink*

yeah, I was a music dork in high school too (still sorta pissed they wouldn't let me do strings and winds at the same time grrr) but this particular bit of theory slipped my mind in favor of liking the idea that the music genome project included a category for the melodramatic potential of the artist, especially since there is some consideration taken of lyrics.
