kjpepper: (nine naked men)

Succumbing to a rare moment of squeeing fangirly goodness, I'd like to take this moment to say Happy Birthday to a seriously underrated actor. I of course speak of Gabriel Byrne, whose intrinsic sexyness can be compared to a shot of Baileys - sweet, smooth, Irish, yummy and very likely to be completely devoured if it is in my general vicinity.

Most people remember him either from The Usual Suspects or some other movie, which unfortunately tend towards the awful and the only reason to ever watch them is to stare at him and drool and ignore the rest of the movie. (Though okay, I admit to liking Ghost Ship. A lot.) Me, I first laid eyes on him in the Winona Ryder version of Little Women, and have been smitten ever since (This is also the movie where I first discovered the "will not toss out of bed for eating crackers" lickableness of Christian Bale.) I was probably also one of the few people to actually watch "Madigan Men" for its one woefully underrated season.

Today Gabriel Byrne turns 56. Goddamn. That is a seriously good looking old man. He also has an interesting resume: according to the IMDb, "Before becoming an actor, he was an archaelogist, a schoolteacher, a short-order cook, and a bullfighter."

So basically Gabriel Byrne = Indiana Jones + brogue + greasy spoon food + sparkly matador costume. Mmm, Gabriel Byrne in sparkly matador costume.... *drool*

A quote for the win: "I would like to break out of this 'dark, brooding' image, cause I'm actually not like that at all. In Ireland, brooding is a term we use for hens. A brooding hen is supposed to lay eggs. Everytime somebody says 'He's dark and brooding' I think: 'He's about to lay an egg.'" Damn, not only is he teh sex, he's funny too.

So. Happy Birthday, Gabriel Byrne. May you continue to age well and be the sole delicious reason for watching otherwise inexplicable movies. *raises shot of Baileys*
