Monday night + sore from the neck down + feeling of ass-tired pleased-with-myself can only mean one thing.

BELLY DANCE IS BACK IN SESSION. *zaghareet*

Joann has made the promise/threat that this session is going to have a bit more of the aerobic focus to it. Which basically means I can look forward to coming home sore every monday, cause that woman loves herself some fast tempo music.

I think I need to start looking at belly dance on youtube, and mine for choreography ideas. So far I've got three things I want to put something together for, and I also want to check out different styles of dance as well, since I'm really used to Joanne's at this point. Today's class Whitney was subbing in for her, and I can definitely feel the difference in dancing style in my legs - Whitney definitely focus more on getting the knees bent really far. Ow.

Before class Whitney showed us some of the video of the dance show that was put on last July when Leyla Jouvani stopped in the area for shows and workshops (Sorry I missed her personally - while I don't think constant shimmying is quite my style, I'm quite impressed with the amount of movement she manages to pack into her routines and not fall over). Apparently Joanne performed at that show and did this eye poppingly gorgeous veil dance... with a two tiered fully lit candleabra perched on her head the entire time. O_o, you know, it's a good thing she's so short. If I tried to do something like that I'd set something on fire. We won't even talk about the fact that the candleabra would fall off.

Where is this bellydancing? You know as one of those things I always "say" I'm going to try but never actually get my ass off the couch to do...

amherst leaisure services. the actual class is at the bangs center. Joanne's great, a little spacey, but a very talented dancer. Also the classes are surprisingly reasonably priced - averages out to about $11 per class.

Whitney's also great - she teaches in greenfield though. however the next session I think Lsse is expanding their belly dance offerings because both classes have been STUFFED so Whitney may be teaching down Amherst way in April.

Winter session started last monday, but I bet you can still jump in, as last class Joanne wasn't here anyway (Whitney was subbing). check www.lsse.org for a catalog.
