In random news, I have Rednex's version of "Cotton Eye Joe" stuck in my head right now, mixed up with that techno song Twinky Assistant was listening to yesterday which was basically that Russian nursery rhyme about the hunter shooting the rabbit sung Right Said Fred style. No really, I'm not kidding, it's the wrongest thing I'd ever heard. "Пиф-паф ой-ой-ой умирает зайчик мой"** should not trigger Queer as Folk flashbacks, though I suppose it could be a euphamism for either orgasm or erectile dysfunction....


EDIT: aha. The song above was written expressly for Gary Brolsma to do a new "Numa Numa" dance to. I'm not sure if that makes the above better or worse, or simply more terrifying.

The fact that the Russian sound effect for gunshots is "piff-paff" is amazing.

If I recall correctly the sound effect is "gap! gap!" in Malaysia.

How different languages spell out onomatopoeia is pretty damn fascinating. The example that comes to mind immediately is the Japanese for "meow" being roughly equivelent to "nyaa" or "nyo."

actually, I'm pretty sure the person doing the actual singing is American. Which is pretty impressive considering the rolled r abuse.
