Things not to do when depressed, #81279: go to fivethirtyeight.com

I vote that New England secedes from the union to go hang with Canada. New York and New Jersey can come too. THE END.*

well yes, but you're a pathological cynic and I try not to listen to you for my own sanity.

Love from Canada but..

It's not all sunshine and roses up here either....

If you think that Tax-achusetts is remotely accurate, you haven't met a 12.5% sales tax.

Europe isn't exactly a tax heaven either. I figure if it all goes to hell in a handbasket, New Zealand is the place to be.

I don't mind the taxes when you get a free education, time off for holiday, and can see some benefits come to you from the tax money you pay. As for the U.S. the stupid just seems to keep growing here, as if electing Bush wasn't bad the first time, it happened twice. And from what has been said and the preliminary estimations, the future doesn't look like it will be any better.

The doors seem to be wide open for university-educated fluent English speaking US passport holders with a strong professional IT background ^^

They actually call it taxachusetts? really? I mean, I hail from an 8.5 sales tax region 5% is kinda laughable. Though it does make calculating tips easier.

Hah! We get 9.5% sales tax! Then again, at least we don't have state or municipal income taxes here.

Yep. It's kind of an old school joke, same as "The Pay State." Massholes just like to complain, IMHO.

a) WHAT THE FUCK AMERICA?
b) this is not the only poll out there and I don't know why it should be trusted above others simply b/c it's two guys instead of a bunch of pollsters. the four "biggest" polling entities are split, with obama ahead by four points in two of them and mccain ahead by one point in the other two...

I'm still trying to deal with the knife in my heart, cause it SHOULDN'T BE THIS CLOSE. (course, if you look @ the electoral college votes, obama's got a healthy lead, so, go figure)

it's really not the split or the polls that bothers me it's that Any People At All Ever buy into the McCain campaign. I mean Obama ain't perfect or nothing but the willful stupidity of large swaths of the country appalls me.

I don't get the reference, but I was wondering if Illinois (and most of the upper Midwest for that matter) can join New England.

You know...someone needs to photoshop that map so that there's a big arrow pointing from New England to the Red States and have a caption that says..."I'm with Stupid."
