Jan. 20th, 2004 03:42 amI feel a bit like I'm in one of those old 1950's science fiction movies tonight, as
beatgoddess is listening to samples of Alessandro Moreschi recordings, and either due to the recording quality (they do date from like 1904) or because of this man's voice, I'm very strongly reminded of a theremin. It's a little freaky, to tell you the truth - Moreschi was the last castrato ever. And the only one to make it onto any sort of recordable medium. It's kind of boggling to think about how a vocal quality like that, fairly odd sounding to modern ears was fairly commonplace two hundred years ago.
