kjpepper: (happy me (grass))
I originally sat down at my computer to work on one or another writing project, but became daunted before even getting as far as opening Word. This is bad, as I have three writing projects I'm currently in the middle of, four if you count the story I finished last week and am currently revising to death before packing it off to [livejournal.com profile] birkwelch. Of the three I'm currently messing with, one needs most of it recopied into word before I can work on anything new unless I just want to continue writing it longhand, two I'm not in the mood to work on really, even if it does consist of a bunch of little stories rather than one big one, and three because no matter how I try I can't nail the beginning of it, even though I already have quite a bit of the middle and the end in various word documents and papers scattered about my life. I suppose I shouldn't be discouraged by this, as Bulgakov spent until his dying day trying to nail the opening paragraph of The Master and Margarita and wound up dying before he was completely satisfied with it, so I guess I'm in good company. Still. Frustrating as hell, as this it the first sort of serial story I want to present to those interested in my little endeavors. And for that you kinda need a beginning. And I'd like it to be a good beginning. I don't ask for much, no...

The sky is a cloudless, perfect blue, and the weather has a brisk, fall tang to it, so refreshing after the lazy, oppressive heat of summer. [livejournal.com profile] sundart will probably go play in it later, but I don't know if I want to join her or spend the day pottering around in the house. I do have quite an impressive pile of laundry that needs doing...

Last night was good too, and I'm glad [livejournal.com profile] beatgoddess and [livejournal.com profile] darkling_dreams had fun dancing with themselves at the Billy Idol concert. I got the rest of the nasty shaggy protodreads forming in the back of my head brushed and re-twisted into acceptable lengths of yarn and hair, watched a ton of I Love the 70s, and did a little bit of hanging out with [livejournal.com profile] inle_rah and [livejournal.com profile] gossamer_gull , who called us early in the evening with a cheery "We're coming to harass you guys!" and then did, armed with Scattergories and g.g.'s New Orleans scrapbook. [livejournal.com profile] inle_rah also lent [livejournal.com profile] sundart and I her super snazzy digital camera to play with this week. After playing with it for about ten minutes, I am already foaming at the mouth and drooling at its utter swankiness. (Don't worry, none of it's hitting the actual camera. ew.) Me want one! But all this means is that [livejournal.com profile] sundart and I will have to get down to brass tacks and work on our little photography project. :) Mmm, something else to do this week...

Not much else to report I'm afraid, which is good, for the siren call of breakfast awaits me.

About six months ago, the big local art house movie theater (The Academy of music) threw a small one day anime festival, complete with sushi. Despite the few movies and the fact that all of them were dubbed (I didn't mind all that much) it did really well.

So well that they're doing it again! This time, only the miyazaki films will be dubbed (no problems here, I think Disney did an amazing job with the translations) but the rest look intriguing. And there will be cosplay and geekishness galore!

Anyway. I'll probably want to go see Kiki's Delivery service (yes, I know, I own it, but mmm, big screen Kiki!), Totoro (never seen it), and Perfect Blue, which I've wanted to see again for quite some time now. Do any of my heart held otaku know anything about X? It looks intriguing but I don't know anything about it.
