About six months ago, the big local art house movie theater (The Academy of music) threw a small one day anime festival, complete with sushi. Despite the few movies and the fact that all of them were dubbed (I didn't mind all that much) it did really well.

So well that they're doing it again! This time, only the miyazaki films will be dubbed (no problems here, I think Disney did an amazing job with the translations) but the rest look intriguing. And there will be cosplay and geekishness galore!

Anyway. I'll probably want to go see Kiki's Delivery service (yes, I know, I own it, but mmm, big screen Kiki!), Totoro (never seen it), and Perfect Blue, which I've wanted to see again for quite some time now. Do any of my heart held otaku know anything about X? It looks intriguing but I don't know anything about it.

imagine that,

I've seen X. It was late at night and my dad turned it on. All I remember about it is that it was really fucking weird. The plot was a little hard for me to follow. I can't really say if it was bad or not because I walked away from it with no other impression than weird. Boy, aren't I helpful? Well let's hope that someone with real opinions has seen it too. ;)

The X movie is the classic example of why you shouldn't try to cram several volumes' worth of convoluted melodrama into a 2-hour movie. As it stands, it ends up boiling down to "here's some people, here's some more people, now watch them all kill each other while rambling on about destiny and the end of the world, the end". The X TV series does a much better job of actually explaining what the hell is going on and acquainting the viewer with the characters to the point where you actually care when someone's head gets chopped off. That said, the movie does look very pretty. It had a sizable animation budget, and is based on a manga series by CLAMP, who are some of the best character designers in the business.
