kjpepper: (batshit tenna (talk to spooky))
The Casita + random associated folk are heading to see PoA tonight. In preparation, [livejournal.com profile] beatgoddess and [livejournal.com profile] somechicksings stayed up and watched the first two movies - [livejournal.com profile] sundart and I surprisingly only made it most of the way through Sorcerer's Stone before conking out. I may watch the good parts of CoS today, as I've nothing better on my agenda as yet, but who knows. I've been really trying to be good and not read spoilers but it's been hard... not that spoilers actually ever spoiled a movie for me. I'm pretty sure I'm going to like it though - I've loved everything I've seen of Cuaron's work (and highly recommend A Little Princess and Y Tu Mama Tambien) so I'm positive he's done a good job with this. :)

Anyway, [livejournal.com profile] _kyri, Crazed Fan of all things Potter, Princess Bride and Anime (she will be appearing at Otakon this summer for the two other people on my friends list that are going) posted a fun meme which I've gleefully stolen...

Not too very much to report again... weeks passing by in a blur will do that to you.

As I was posting yesterday's entry Lisa DeCarolis caught me and stopped to chat for a bit... *sigh* There's just nothing good on Green Street anymore - they're pulling out all of the student computing from the basement of Seelye and dumping it in the basement of Wright hall! *sigh* I mean really, what is Smith without the Seelye lab? I don't want to talk about how many memories I've got associated with the myriad nooks and crannies of that room, posting to the MSFC and yelling at the vagaries of campus email, not to mention the hours clocked behind the consultant desk talking down suicidal Social Work students after virii, Windows and or disk failures ate their three hundred page theses due in an hour... and now it's gone? *sniffle* And the WAG, which [livejournal.com profile] sundart and I helped recreate in the heyday of Jim Blau as the Mac Dude (who is eaps and bounds cooler than the skankmeister currently serving as the campus Mac guy)? Moment of silence...

Lisa's going to Tibet, how cool is that? (Does that woman go anyplace normal for vacation? sheesh. She's been more cool places than I can shake a stick at...) I told her that she MUST come visit the Casita this summer so we can finally have our long delayed lasagna party.

The Dean meeting was very quick and productive - I have to head over to HCC and register for the Linear Algebra class and get all sorts of paperchasing shit done after work on Monday... then I have to get my work hours flopped to the afternoon on Tuesdays and Thursdays, which won't be any sort of big deal.  Came home, spent an hour and a half or so on the phone with the Airman which was kinda fun and a little weird, but overall okay, and then made the mistake of falling asleep afterwards. Which would have been fine if I hadn't promised to meet sundart downtown at 5:15. I was awakened by a passing ice cream truck at 5:30 and was so flipped out about being late that for once I wasn't filled with the usual urge to throw bricks at things that the lilting strains of "Turkey in the Straw" usually cause. Leapt upon Bellenoire and raced downtown, nearly mowing over several pedestrians in my hurry.

Sunny-D and I did a little shopping and since she had a hard day of work aggravation and too much headspace lately (I know how that is) one of our stops was Herrells for a little bit of ice cream. *blissful sigh*  And then home again for Harry Potter and [livejournal.com profile] beatgoddess making strange brownie/cookies that were quite tasty...

Been living in my own head far too much again this week. One one hand, it passes the time, on the other hand... I've got enough trouble with having my head in the clouds and not down in the water where it belongs... (cookie for those who get the reference...)

It kicked all kinds of ass. Yay.

And the credits were very well done. No extra scenes, but several very nice touches in several places that you needed to be paying attention in order to catch.

All told, Cuaron did not disappoint me. Yay.

Before the show I took [livejournal.com profile] sundart to the Ground Round for dinner where we stuffed ourselves and had some fun talking about our usual topic of deep discussion of late, not to mention I rather thoroughly embarrassed myself by unleashing my much suppressed sports fan, as there was a Sparks/Comets game on in the restaurant, and then after that was over I was rather dumbfounded to find myself talking at great length about the whole Triple Crown thing, since someone in the restaurant has switched on the Belmont Stakes. Basically I was just nattering on about how no one's won all three races since the seventies and how Smarty Jones had won the first two races this year and Muffy and Bill and Babs and Becky all had their panties and girdles in a bunch over him possibly winning all three. "I don't get it," [livejournal.com profile] sundart said to me. "How is it that you just know about the randomest shit?"

Don't ask me... all I know is that every year my mother will not shut up about these damned horses, so I got treated to quite the earful about this Smarty Jones when I went to NY last weekend. So yeah, I knew about it. *sheepish grin* "Seriously, though, if this horse wins the Belmont, there are going to be riots in Long Island," I commented to [livejournal.com profile] sundart. "Except it will be rich people riots, and they'll be serving cocktails amid the breakage."

Hold the pearls, Muffy. No Triple Crown winner this year. Big shock there. Though I was later thinking about the earlier game and just growing up being taught to free throw by Penuche, and being one of maybe three girls in my grade brave enough to take on the boys on the court during gym class and whipping ass. It's been way too fucking long since I've played ball. *sigh*

Dessert was good, though I was rather disappointed to be defeated halfway through the apple crisp a la mode. [livejournal.com profile] sundart was thoroughly bitch slapped in turn by the fried cheesecake and strawberry sauce, and we were having an amusing thought or two about the boys, the fact that both of them have a weakness for cheesecake, whether they'd tried the fried kind, and what would be involved in mailing said confection to them... Wonder if Junior's does mail order? :) (edit - yep, but only to the continental US. One of the boys is out of luck.) Mmmm, Junior's... man, I miss Brooklyn sometimes.

A little surreal to come home and read in [livejournal.com profile] rhipowered's journal that Reagan had died finally. 'Course my first thought was to think crossedly at the universe that it was supposed to be the active president that was elected in a year ending in a zero that was supposed to die horribly, not the past one. It's all about the dying in office, damn it. Oh well, not that that would help things any. The phrase "President Cheney" just strikes all kinds of wibble into the stoutest hearts.

Peckish. Going to make meself a sammich now. Oh, and my ipod cable hasn't gotten here. I'm going to have to call up Apple tomorrow and have to choke a bitch, I think. *GROWL*
