kjpepper: (batshit tenna (talk to spooky))

The Casita + random associated folk are heading to see PoA tonight. In preparation, [livejournal.com profile] beatgoddess and [livejournal.com profile] somechicksings stayed up and watched the first two movies - [livejournal.com profile] sundart and I surprisingly only made it most of the way through Sorcerer's Stone before conking out. I may watch the good parts of CoS today, as I've nothing better on my agenda as yet, but who knows. I've been really trying to be good and not read spoilers but it's been hard... not that spoilers actually ever spoiled a movie for me. I'm pretty sure I'm going to like it though - I've loved everything I've seen of Cuaron's work (and highly recommend A Little Princess and Y Tu Mama Tambien) so I'm positive he's done a good job with this. :)

Anyway, [livejournal.com profile] _kyri, Crazed Fan of all things Potter, Princess Bride and Anime (she will be appearing at Otakon this summer for the two other people on my friends list that are going) posted a fun meme which I've gleefully stolen...

When did you first discover Harry Potter?:
June, 1999. This was way before everyone went apeshit over the books, so I can truly say I discovered them by accident and loved them on their own merits. So there! ;) (I know I know. I'm exactly this obnoxious about the fact that I have a seven digit ICQ# too.) I had actually bought Sorcerer's Stone as a birthday present for a friend of mine, made the mistake(?) of reading it before I packed it in a box. Went out the next day and bought [livejournal.com profile] sundart a copy, and myself Chamber of Secrets, sent out both copies of Sorcerer's Stone with the directive "You've GOT to read this..." Considering this was when everything was still in hardcover, this was a very big deal, not just in how much these books were, but how much it subsequently cost to mail them hither and yon.

Were you hooked instantly, or did it take a while?: See above.

Did you instantly fall in love w/ any specific character?: Peeves. Still minorly annoyed by the fact that he never made it into the movies. Oh, and Hagrid. I LOVE Hagrid...

Favorite...
Professor: Lupin. Riddikulous! Close second being Mad Eyed Moody.
Marauder: Padfoot. :)
Gryffindor(k): (Movie) Wood. Damn, he sexy, and that accent! (Book) that kid with the dreadlocks who announces the Quidditch games. Dean Thomas?
Slytherin: Snape.... Snape.... oooooh, it's a Snape...
Hufflepuff: Unfortunately I don't really remember too much of the Hufflepuffs, though I do like Professor Sprout.
Ravenclaw: Isn't one of the Patil twins in Ravenclaw? and yeah, the Cho hatred abounds...
Character overall: Tough one...

How long did it take you to read...
Book 1: 2h.
Book 2: 4h.
Book 3: 4h.
Book 4: 7h, after Amazon dumped it on our doorstep the day it came out. The probles is that [livejournal.com profile] sundart and [livejournal.com profile] zadnyl were watching the blair witch project at the same time so I have screaming associated with interesting incongruous passages.
Book 5: 8h.

If you were in Harry Potter...
What house would you be in?: Probably Ravenclaw or Gryffindor.
What would your pet be?: Either a cat or a toad.
What would your wand be?: Nine inch, ebony, unicorn hair?
Who would you date?: make me a Fred and George sandwich please, with a little Wood on the side. (no, I'm not greedy...)
What would be your fav. subject?: Actually, I think I'd be rather good at Potions.

Other...
How did you feel about you know who dying? (in OotP): Nooooooooooooooooooooooo!

What are your views on the Dark Lord?: I'd be a death eater. But only if I got to hump Lucius Malfoy's leg. ;) Seriously, I'm kinda eh about Voldemort, except for the bit where I considered getting VLDMRT as a vanity license plate if I ever got a car.

Weasleys or Malfoys?: Weasleys. I'm a sucker for cute redheads, especially a family full of them. As long as we sent Percy off to be Norbert-food first.

That kid with the dreadlocks who announces the Quidditch games.

Lee Jordan. He's the twins' friend, too, so maybe you should add him to your sandwich. ^_~

...the two other people on my friends list that are going.

Ohh, who? :D

Dear sweet gods, how do you manage to read so fast? I max out at about 40 pages an hour on a good day with an easy to read text.</whine>

Well, knowing your girlfriend will cause your demise if she doesn't get to read it within 24 hours of receipt is a good incentive.

Seriously - if I recall correctly you always read fairly slow, but I always thought it was because English was like your third language. Or do/did you read slow in Russian, too?

I read that slow in Russian back when it was my only language, and now read slower in it than I do in English ^^;
