kjpepper: (oooh...)
So at about 9:40, C and I looked at each other suddenly during Law and Order. "Did you...?"

Five minutes later. "Can you smell that?"

Yeah, we felt the air change. We wandered outside to the porch at 10 with [livejournal.com profile] anzovin and watched the natural pyrotechnics in the sky for a while. There wasn't even any thunder yet but the lightning was already pretty spectacular. About 20 minutes later we got hit by a wall of wind, and then watched as it was followed by a wall of water rolling down the street.

Quite possibly the highlight of the storm was not the impressive display of natural fury, but the across the street neighbor of the long haired stoner persuasion that plunged into the storm with a sort of infectiously insane joy, cavorting madly in the middle of Hawley Street. Much to my, [livejournal.com profile] sundart's and the lesbians-next-door's amused and slightly shocked delight (and after a couple of catcalls to lose the shorts) he did it again a few minutes later... buck naked.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why I love this town.

It's still muggy out but it's cooled down enough to open a few windows and run the fan on the A/C. I am currently still up trying to get though the assload of dishes I've let accumulate since sunday, but I felt that teh storm and the mad streaker within it warrented commemoration.

In other news, baby goats are damn cute.
kjpepper: (nine naked men)
Yeah. Still awake, and have pretty much accepted that it's gonna be one of those nights/days where I'm going to be sucking down coffee every four hours just to keep myself functioning. (Goddamn it, NOS, why must you contain ginseng?) Dishes have been vanquished finally, so I suppose that's something.

In between rounds of dishes I thoroughly horrified myself for an hour with a VH1 special on kiddie beauty pageants. My gut reaction on them is always OMG EEEK train wreck can't look away, but I also recognize that some little girls actually do enjoy that and acknowledge that I probably would have been into it when I was around 5-6ish myself had I even realized there was such a thing as a kiddie pageant. But yeah. Mostly OMG EEEK. The skewed messages it sends to the little girls in the pageant circuit have been discussed to death, so I'm not going to go there... I guess mostly my objection is more of a recognizing that stage parents are a lot like purebred show dog/cat owners, which is a little scary when the object they're showing is a sentient being at the age where it's learning but hasn't quite gotten the hang of reasoning for itself.

I seriously thought the AT&T commercial with the dad knocking on a whole bunch of car windows at the local Inspiration Point looking for his daughter held the top spot for my favorite ad so far this summer, but it's been edged out by this one:

ahahahahaha ballooning AARP nudists. Possibly even funnier than the ad is the flamewar conducted in the comments to this YouTube where one person's all ZOMG PERPECHOOATING NUDISM STARIOTAIPE OHNOES and the rest of them are all like "um...dude? STFD&STFU."

Is it possible to feel ansty and apathetic at once? I feel like I want to do something productive, but I'm sort of failing about giving a damn about anything I could conceivably be doing right now. It's not a fun feeling cause then I'm all full of restless energy and have nowhere to put it.

Hmm. 4:13. I could probably grab a couple of hours of shuteye maybe. Here's to trying.

Today is Kamehameha Day.

The significance of this greatly depends on whether you're Hawaiian or a DBZ fan.

That is all.
