Man, I've gotten so used to rolling out of bed between 5:30 and 6:30 that waking up at 7:30 feels like oversleeping even though it still leaves me with a more than respectable hour and a half before I have to be at work.

There is blissfully nothing notable about today. It's just going to be go to work , get shit done, and then get on the bus afterwards, go to Amherst, sample the restaurants, and then go see Get Smart, though I must say I'm tempted to change my mind and go see The Fall instead if [livejournal.com profile] sydneycat is amenable - most reports say amazing things about it and since I'm already going all the way to Amherst.... I could always see Get Smart at some other point in the next week. Course next weekend, both WallE and Wanted come out... Robot Love vs James McAvoy being lickable shooting things... curse you, summer movie season and actually having movies I want to watch for once. Curse you.

Ick. I think I need to stop being in denial about the fact that I can no longer eat raw bananas, which blows considering I like to move it move it put them into smoothies. But yeah I tossed one into the blender along with [livejournal.com profile] sydneycat's leftover morning fruit-thing and while it tastes really good, my mouth and throat are now all swollen and itchy. Fuck. I'm kinda bummed about it because I don't like very many fruits as it is because most of them are the wrong texture. (Easily solved by throwing them in the blender, but I can't carry one around with me at all times. :P) Bah. Guess I'll have to find my potassium elsewhere.

*sigh* - and now I've just managed to chew off a hangnail deep enough to bleed. Off to find a band-aid.

ETA: or as they call them so charmingly in the UK, "sticking plasters."

PRETTEH.

Non spoilery reasons why The Fall was amazing:
  1. Guh. This is one of the PRETTEHest movies I've ever seen. Just the colors alone are jaw dropping - like I could have taken off my glasses and found the resulting blurs of rich to almost the breaking point of saturation color as satisfyingly gorgeous.

  2. Where did they find that little girl? I kept wanting to snatch her out of the screen and nom her cheeks.

  3. All right, [livejournal.com profile] lostcircuit, you're right. Lee Pace is yummy. I'll take 2 please.

  4. Holy crap it had ketjak in it! Ketjak is one of the more awesome forms of vocal music ever. And it's really really hard to explain... I guess what it sounds a little bit like is a drum circle attended solely by a choir of male Balinese beatboxers. (A smaller example with percussion can be found on DVD and on demand episodes of Avatar the Last Airbender, over the end credits.)

  5. It quite accurately captured the experience of telling and being told a story, down to the occasional inconsistancies and frequent randomness that comes of spinning a tale on the fly. There are also rather jarring reminders that what the storyteller sees as he tells the tale may be vastly different from what the listener imagines.

It's a pretty amazing movie. Twee in parts, unexpectedly, blackly hilarious in others, a bit slow with the plot occasionally but it doesn't even really matter as there's so much to distract the eye while you're waiting to get whacked in the sensories with the next beautiful shot. Well done, Tarsem. Well done.
