kjpepper: (happy me (grass))

Why don't I get out of the house at night anymore? I forget how nice it is, how much I enjoy meandering though familiar shadows, especially on nights that are exceptionally pretty, like this one. It's still snowing, but lightly, and it's slightly frozen so that if you look up at a streetlight in precisely the right angle, it looks like God's throwing glitter everywhere. And the sidewalks are all sparkly.

I had a coffee date with D at 8 so 7:40ish found me walking fairly fast past an eerily quiet Smith with some mellow music plugged into my ears, and fairly happy, the walk only being marred by the presence of sand and a little fine gravel in my boots, which led me to thinking... you know, it's about a mile from home to downtown... they say that to understand someone you have to walk a mile in their shoes. Except that a mile isn't all that long of a walk. Certainly not long enough to gain any deep personal insight into someone else's character. But it is long enough to do your feet some serious damage in ill-fitting shoes, and pick up all sorts of nasty things like protocorns and blisters. Ouch.

D and I decided that ice cream was infinitely preferable to caffiene, and so indulged in some serious dairy consumption at Herrell's, which was good because due to the hour and the weather the place was pretty empty. She treated me to a cup of cookies and creme (drool, my absolutely most favorite) and about an hour's worth of gossip and catching up. The good thing about making new friends is that they are a completely new set of ears that haven't heard all of your stories yet. :) Overall a good time was had by both. yay.

Trying to decide if I should stay up and try to get some work done or call it an early night and start the day bright and early tomorrow. I have to open the lab again, so I've gotta be up and at 'em early, but so does [livejournal.com profile] sundart and between the two of us we should manage. I should also hit the gym after my shift. Snow is pretty, but it makes riding the bike kind of a pain, and I did just get it back from the shop, I don't feel like gumming up the works with deicer and sand and crap just yet. although that reminds me my chain's still squeaky, I need to oil it again. WD40 is my friend...
