I was toying with the idea of taking the 6-9 week intensive summer course in Russian at Middlebury, not this summer (I can barely afford my shoelaces, much less a two month immersion course), but possibly the next. I think it's going to make me cry and I'm going to hate it, but it's been literally years since I've been in any sort of Russian language anything and I'm losing it, slowly and steadily. Which is annoying because despite its groan-worthy grammar and tendency to pack six consonants together without the benefit of a vowel in a single word, I love the language, its sound, its rhythms, cadences, the persistent not quite minor modes of the music, and the associated culture. Not to mention the bits of angsty techno/rock I've been gacking from [livejournal.com profile] harinezumi. *sigh* I want to get back to the point where I can sing my anthem, folk and pop song repertory and not feel like I'm doing it purely phonetically, not to mention that I was poking through my journals between eighth and twelfth grade and there are entire bits and pieces written in my horrendous Russian cursive (which is slightly better than my horrendous English cursive) that I don't understand anymore. And damn it, I wanna go. Pictures are pretty, but I want to contemplate the Neva in person someday...

(hey, [livejournal.com profile] harinezumi... wanna come with me? ;) )

God... so much I want to do... but can't right the fuck now... grrrrrrrrr.

Sad thing is, I've never been to Piter myself. ^^ Pretty amusing, actually, that I've seen a lot more of the US than I have of Russia (though I have seen more of Moscow than any other city). Ahh, just one more year and I can pay the place a visit again without having to worry about the draft board.
