Calling from the afterlife?
Apr. 26th, 2004 02:28 amYou know how when I get stressed I start hallucinating phones ringing?
I just heard the most spooky, yet sad thing... our landlord's dead father's studio is directly below us - below beatgoddess' room actually - and landlord often uses it as a crap repository and place-to-pee when he comes over to muck about on the property. He also left dead dad's phone on, and occasionally it will ring - usually around local-paper-jonesing-for-subscribers season. It's an old phone that actually sounds like a phone, with an actual bell in the body of it somewhere, so its ring is pretty distinctive for our phone ringing or downstairs neighbor's.
About ten minutes ago it started ringing. At least I thought it did,
beatgoddess, who's also currently awake didn't hear it, but cosidering that phone's pretty loud I'm pretty sure at least some of the ringing existed in reality. It was pretty spooky, hearing that ring echo up through a mostly sleeping/empty house, knowing that no one's been home to answer it in years. Also a little sad, because, considering the hour, it had to be a wrong number.
Of course, if I did hallucinate it... oh hell. I should go to bed anyway, and to fuckery with this thing I'm supposed to be working on but instead have been dozing in and out since 11:30 on the couch. *sigh*
Had a really scary dream that I was diagnosed with a condition so rare they didn't have a name for it. Something about red blood cells dying off. and how suddenly it was risky for me to do just about anything. Anyway, that wasn't the meat and potatoes of the dream, the rest of it was like some crazy combination of third horror movie from the left at Blockbuster, the Partridge Family, except for the gimp living in the bottom of the bus, the Addams Family, and ER. Basically I woke up in the hospital with an iv and my left arm kinda useless and sore due to some kinda surgery (must've been thinking about birkwelch) and after a fairly incompetent doctor attempted to tell me what was up my parents kept trying to kidnap me from the hospital... there was a lot more and some of it was pretty funny, but I have to sleep now.
