Low points:
  • getting up way too early on a saturday and having to fight with my hair. This involved discovering that the mousse I put in my hair last night didn't react well with the oil already in my hair and having to yank a brush through the gluey mess anyway. *sigh* I should have just yarned it in white. Oh well.
  • Forgetting breakfast
  • dress made of nylon + humid day = uck.
High Points:
  • Dress pretty. Highlighting neck and shoulders = a winner is me.
  • Having [livejournal.com profile] filthyassistant there to mock the event.
  • wearing OMG bright purple tights under dress.
  • really pretty dresses, creative outfits, the SARIS *sigh* the cute punky pixie girl standing next to us (anyone know who she is? Photo behind cut)
  • Overly exuberant little old ladies
  • Wondering exactly how much Smith spent on the roses and laur- er, ivy garlands alone
Odd but mostly Funny Points:
  • Chick with camera asking to photograph our shoes for photoessay. Hey, any excuse to show off the purple tights.
  • Alumnae on their 50th+ reunion telling us as they passed that we would be them before we knew it. At which point[livejournal.com profile] filthyassitant turns to me and says "Please tell me that I won't wake up tomorrow and fifty years will have passed."
  • Some old black guy in a suit (somebody's dad, I assume) attempting unsuccessfully to harangue [livejournal.com profile] filthyassistant and I for cutting out of line and skipping the awards ceremony. Uh huh. I needed my breakfast, thanks. And to get out of that hot dress.
Pictures:

Pre-show

sundart took some pics of me before the festivities... Ya know, I think the neck/shoulder region's my best feature. Seriously... obligatory sundart and me pic
not the best pic of me, but it does show off the dress. me partner in crime for the weekend, filthyassistant filthyassistant! (looking mahvelous...)

Alumnae Parade

Much outfit ogling. This chickie with the cellphone's outfit was beautiful. Kindof a pity I didn't manage a pic of the saris... I don't know who this is, but she was super cute! sea of Smithies in white. (isn't it bad form to wear white before Memorial day, incidentally? Or does that just pertain to shoes?)
Not a parade without a marching band... I like how this pic turned out. Yay clarinets!
Probably the most fun part of the alumnae thing is the little old ladies... Lots and lots of little old ladies. Class of 1939, in fine style
Class of 54 at their 50th They had this whole car theme full of puns bad enough to horrify both gossamer_gull and harinezumi.
*facepalm* *giggle* Class of '79...
Class of '94 comments on the low carb craze. More '94
Um, no, that's not a typo, it's an in joke. Smith wasn't actually founded until 18-something. But all the random people who show up for reunion and march anyway go here. And finally the chain of ivy-that's-really-laurel-but-don't-tell-anybody. ;)

I walked home afterward, my dress hem in one hand, my rose and camera in the other, enjoying the breeze and giggling as people drove by and smiled at me. I suppose I made quite the romantic picture, random chick in gorgeous white dress, sleeves billowing in the wind, carrying a rose and in general looking happy...

Oh yeah. New Icon. :)

Thanks for the pictures. It is standard to not wear white before Memorial Day.

Actually, since white is the prefered color of many religious ceremonies that happen before memorial day. I've never in my life heard it was bad form to wear white before memorial day- unless you're talking about shoes. Then it's white from memorial day to labor day and black the rest of the year.
