Usually it's [livejournal.com profile] sundart with the wrist complaints, but yowsa, now I've got one to match. My left arm hurts from my shoulder downwards and my right one is a mite aggravated from the elbow down.

Ah, repetitive stress injury. gotta love it. :)

Despite the aches, I did a lot of good work today. Most of it is backbone work for the MSFC site - I did a ton of work on the archives. Those look like they're going to be less work than originally thought, actually - the main PITA is working with the table of contents, but I did a massive chunk of that work already, and now all the messages are indexed, dated, and attributed to the right people (boy that was a joy - three people on the list had an appalling habit of changing their handles every three weeks or so... arrrgh!). All hail being able to copy and the entire TOC from Eudora, paste it into a text file, and doing the rest of the above gruntwork in Excel. Booyeah. I think what's going to happen now is that I'm going to either write or find a script that will read from the massive mbx file where the actual messages are kept, trash the headers, and then spew each message into an individual numbered text file to be called upon as needed. I'm hoping that since in a lot of cases the headers are longer than the messages, that the resulting spewage will cut the sheer disk size of the archives (now standing at 28 MB) in half.

([livejournal.com profile] harinezumi, if you ever feel the urge to pitch in with the programming here, feel free.)

anyway, once I figure out that, how to display the messages on the site, and how to deal with searching, they can actually go live. And here I thought it was going to take me all summer to deal with this. ;) Getting the stuff to thread is going to be a whole 'nother challenge, and I started working on that tonight as well o_O. However that's something that can be worked on behind the scenes and added later.

so basically yeah, most of the major database building is done! And now to sit down, crack my knuckles and dive into the PHP that's actually going to crunch this shit and spit out usuable web pages. Heh. I think I'm well on my way to earning back my geek card. Go me.

But for now, Advil, water and bedtime, in that order. :)
