If anyone out there in the Valley is still awake, I highly recommend stepping outside, going someplace fairly dark, and looking directly up into the face of Mother Night. The stars are so clear and diamond bright they can cut through glass, and for the first time in forever I could see the faint spidery arm of the Milky Way, not to mention the individual Pleiedes.

You know what I'd like for my birthday? A blanket, a thermos full of cocoa, a clear moonless night like this one, two or three hours, and someplace just far enough away from civilization where I can stare upwards and see the stars in all their glory.
