Welcome to Sunday
Apr. 13th, 2003 12:20 pmUgh. In my not so humble opinion no one should be up this early on Sunday. I awoke at 9:15 to the stirring sounds of the voices of
sundart and Austin, and was promptly confused as Austin is rarely seen awake before 12:30 unless she has to be, so I'm thinking power outage or something where I've obviously slept longer than the clock is telling me. But no, it turns out Austin was having a bad night of it and woke Carole up at 7:30 for support. Stress and apnea are a bad combination.
Anyway. Carole and I managed to put Austin back to bed by about 10 ish, and then went out to Stop and Shop to grab me some Krazy Glue for my glasses, some other small items, and leftover boxes, except there weren't any there. I swear, going to Stop and Shop for boxes is like going to the Donut Dip in West Springfield for bismarcks - you have to get up assbutt early to get them and when you get there you have to grab as many as possible in case you run out or something. The good news is that boxes tend to keep somewhat better than fresh baked jelly monstrosity donuts . . . anyway. In light of the sad lack of boxes, Carole and I wandered up to Smith to dumpster dive for cardboard in back of our old Lamont house and the Student Center. We hit pay dirt of course, and now we have quite a few more boxes to work with. Go us. Still, I hold to my philosophy that no one should be awake before noon unless there is work involved, or quite possibly church, although I'm dubious of any religion that requires you to be sitting on hard wooden benches for an hour or so in dress clothes first thing in the morning on your day off. So much for the day of rest concept.
I ran into an acquaintance of mine from working in WAG and I'm feeling intensely horrible because I can't remember her name, but she's really awesome and if anyone (
nireena??
blueraccoon??) can help me out, that would be great . . . but she's going through almost the exact same senior year academic bullshit I was three years ago, where I was living in an increased state of panic because I was well nigh failing two of my classes and almost at the state where I was going to do some serious harm to myself or others because graduation was sneaking up on me and I was running out of time. She's even panicking about almost the same two classes, as she's a computer science major as well, but it's the advanced math requirement and the last major requirement class that's doing it . . . anyway, after giving her a hug and letting her know that no matter what the outcome it won't be the end of the world, I unloaded all the advice I could muster from my brain - take summer exstensions on both the horrendous classes and concentrate on getting decent, if not good grades in the others that she's doing all right in, have many conversations with the dean (hell, I've got to do that too at some point . . . arg.), it helps, and know that although parents can be awful when it comes to academics (nothing like growing up in black family of high acheivers if you're not inclined towards locking yourself in a library, ladies and gentlemen) they ultmately get over any sort of disappointment . . . or at least blissfully stop talking about it. I think I helped. I hope I helped anyway. Gawd, I wish I had someone to tell me all this three years ago. ;)
Anyway. I'm running off to make Austin some soup, And i have to take this machine apart and figure out why the fan is now barking instead of whining. It's probably cat hair.
