oh lord. It's probably a bad thing when I'm watching Law & Order SVU and someone says that a chick living in Park Slope went to prep school between Columbus Circle and CPW and my first thought is "shit, she had over an hour long commute by subway," huh?

Considering I can also tell when they fake two locations by filming on two different sides of a street.

Gawd, I'm a geek.

Remind me to tell you about the car chase scene in The Rock sometime...you know, the one that starts around the corner from the Mark Hopkins Hotel, makes a turn into Chinatown, crosses the street into the SoMa, changes lanes into Los Angeles(!) - and winds up two blocks from where they started.

(Though my favorite story from that shoot was the fact that they painted cable-car tracks onto Jones St, so they could film the end of the chase without disrupting service...and did such a good job that they had to post signs at street corners to keep people from waiting for cable cars....)

The empire state building is on the corner of fifth avenue and 34th street. Emphasis on corner. I know, I travelled past it almost every day for 11 years. Hence much screamage at the screen whenever they show it blowing up in Independance Day. The blatent geography error there sets my teeth on edge.

yeah, i have the same problem when watching movies set in New Orleans. I think my 2 favorites are the girl who takes the street car home from work when she works on the WEST BANK (across the river), and when two people were on the Moon walk watching the sun come up and they decide to go to breakfast somewhere other than Cafe Du Monde (which is right behind them practically)

Does everyone do this? I can usually tell when Pittsburgh is substituting for an actual city, and my friends and I laughed our asses off over the geography of Striking Distance, which is one of the few movies filmed in the 'Burgh that is also set there. =)
