OMG! so as a big cuddlefuck of Libra celebration [livejournal.com profile] morlock suggested that he, [livejournal.com profile] sydneycat, [livejournal.com profile] sundart and I go to the Boston Museum of Science to see the LOTR exhibit of authentic movie STUFF.

And it kicked all kinds of ass. Random thoughts that ran through my head were "Oooh, pretty! We wants it!" (regarding costuming and armor) and "Ooooh, ugly!" (regarding orcs and the life size model of the big bad Uruk-hai).

After the exhibit and getting some much needed food, we ran around the MOS looking at stuff. I think I may have to betray a cherished place of childhood memory and say that I actually like the MOS better than the Museum of Natural History. The reason being - they have much the same stuff in both places, but the MOS is a far more managable size. You can conceivably see all of the MOS in an afternoon (and we pretty much did), meanwhile you could get lost in the MONH for a week and still not see everything. Which is all well and good, but rather overwhelming, you know?

Anyway, I spent some time cuddling with a UNIVAC, watching tamarinds run around a huge display, watching Little Red Riding Hood being told in sign language, played with lightning, combined [livejournal.com profile] sundart's and my faces usuing reflections and light levels, oohed at holograms, laughed my ass off at the fact that there's an entire exhibit dedicated to the Big Dig, told [livejournal.com profile] sundart and [livejournal.com profile] sydneycat about my erstwhile theory that fairies lived in geodes because they were so sparkly and pretty, watched a swordfighting workshop (so weird, saw my first fencing instructor there - shit, need to take that up again I think.... holy crap. [livejournal.com profile] morlock, speaking of which I need to ask you something later - remind me), and spent a good amount of quality time mesmerized by the audiokinetic thingummie with the balls, bells gears and levers. [livejournal.com profile] jaicat knows of what I speak, since I swear I've dragged anyone unlucky enough to come to New York through Port Authority to see the ones they have there. This one was exactly the same (I think it was built by the same people) except for being white, not red. Kinda made me homesick actually.

The last two things we did were chill with a beehive (oh... my bees!) and sit through the theater of electricity show with the OMG huge van der graff generator thingie that unfortunately looks like a set piece from Sir Mix-a-lot's "Baby Got Back" video, but creates some pretty eyepopping lightning, not to mention that it created sooooo much static electricity that when we left a little later my entire central nervous system was practically humming. Great for clearing out the sinuses and the head in general. :)

So, yeah, a big good time was had running around and being geeks. W00t. The rest of the day's adventures (or misadventures, depending on what level of perspective one has) deserve their own post, to follow once I cram some food into my craw. :P
