Another GIP
Oct. 3rd, 2005 12:46 amThis one's purely for
athene's benefit, as is the following quiz:
You're a Queen. You rule the Blood and are
considered to be the land's heart and the
Blood's moral centre. You are the centre part
of all the Blood.
What Caste from the Dark Jewels Trilogy are You?
brought to you by Quizilla
Well, okay, it's not entirely just a GIP - I was poking around the internet looking for anne bishop news and ran across an excerpt from her next novel, which looks like it's about an incubus Sweet! Seems like a return to the sexy, witty well defined characters that she made us love in Jewels. Cause honestly I didn't really like the Fae trilogy... too heavyhanded.
It's so weird, I find myself returning to the Dark Jewels books repeatedly lately, both because over the past year there's been some of that life resonance crap, but also cause every time I go through I'm impressed anew with how well these characters are written, personified, drawn. That and I realized something fundamental about the way the story is told... Jaenelle's the main character, but the story is never told from her perspective. Ever. The entire story is all of the character's experience of Jaenelle and having her in their life and what she meant to them, both as herself and as Witch. Not that the two are that seperate. I just found that pretty interesting. Usually a story is told as one person's perspective on many different other people and events, even if it's written in the third person. But instead this is many different people's perspectives on a single character. I mean... whoa. That's kinda neat in itself.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to Sebastian. I suppose at some point I should also hunt down Jacqueline Carey's two new ones as well, but I did just reread the Kushiel books and am somewhat maxed out on her right now.
