Pan's Labyrinth is fantastically gorgeous. It is also probably the most brutally violent AND wrenchingly depressing movies I have ever seen. Be warned.

That, by the way, is a good review. Y'know, in case you couldn't tell.

I like having cute indie theater spitting distance from the house. :)

It was beautiful and violent, but somehow I found myself far more depressed by Children of Men. Maybe because at least there was a fantasy element to Pan's. (?)

Wow...good thing I didn't go with you then. You know my rule on depressing movies. Also I went to bed at 9:30. Cause I'm old and decrepit. :-)

it actually started at 8:30 - I read the schedule wrong. And I never understood your rule on depressing movies since you seem to really like the pretty pretty pretty rocks fall everyone dies sort of Chinese cinema.

Okay...okay...I do occasionally make an exception for "hot asian melodrama with swords" but those tend to have enough of WTFBBQ at the end to assuage me. This probably would have too it sounds like...like I said...Netflix...since I don't really have any cash to spend on extras right now given the household sitch. SIGH

Yeah. At the end of the movie, I was shell-shocked, and my date was openly crying. I turned to him and said "I need to cuddle" in a serious tone. He just grabbed my hand and we left.
Heavy movie.

shell-shocked is a good term for it. I was just sitting there watching the credits going "Wow. I really shouldn't have seen that by myself..."
