Masterpiece Theater (curse you Sesame Street, I always want to write that as Monsterpiece Theater) is considerably less stuffy than I remember. While randomly channel surfing [livejournal.com profile] sydneycat ran across the fact that they were broadcasting a BBC adaptation of Phillip Pullman's The Ruby in the Smoke, so we stopped there and watched it. Next week they're doing Dracula. Excuse me, when did Masterpiece Theater get sexy?? So much for the days of I Claudius and endless reinterpretations of things written by Brontës. Not that I, Claudius wasn't gripping in a highbrow painfully Roman sort of way... ;) Still, Philip Pullman is quite a departure from Robert Graves. Now if they would just rerun Tipping the Velvet so I can watch the bits I missed... hmm that might still be a mite too sexy for PBS. Still. I miss Alistair Cook(i)e. And the long intro with the panning around the library of immaculately maintained leatherbound books and the full Mouret Fanfare. That 8 bar abridged nonsense isn't cutting it for me.

Regarding that other thing on TV tonight... Okay, I'm kinda hamming up the disdain, cause I used to get into football during Super Bowl season growing up. It's like that and the NBA finals were the only sports that ever got watched at my house, with the exception of the occasional Mets game. I am rather sorry I missed the halftime show as I heard Prince gave quite a performance, and I'm happy to know that the Colts won, as the Chicago fans were utter dicks to New Orleans during the playoffs. Friendly fan rivalry, my ass, there is NO excuse for holding up signs that say "WE WILL FINISH WHAT KATRINA STARTED." Bad Chicago, no biscuit, and I was totally rooting for you too before that. Way to cheat me out of taking great pleasure out of making endless SNL references about DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA BURZ. Sheesh.

Last thought of the day... on a cold winter night, nothing beats having a plushy red bathrobe to hang around in. All I need is a 40oz of hot chocolate and some diamond studded leopard fur bunny slippers and I'd seriously be the world's most comfortable pimp right now. :D

... okay. On that note, I'm going the hell to bed.

Oh, I wanted to see Ruby In The Smoke, since the star, Billie Piper, had been on the new Dr. Who for two seasons.

And if you don't consider I Claudius sexy, you obviously don't remember it at all. Seriously.

It's quite good, if you don't mind nudity, kinky sex, perversion, violence, and british accents.
