It's always jarring when you find out that someone you know/knew no longer walks the waking world. Even if it's someone you weren't particularly close to, or had lost touch with.
Today I found out that Mike Giusto passed on last month - he worked at the theater with
sundart and I way back when, he even was a manager for a little while. It's so weird when you hear about things like this, you feel guilty for not keeping in touch, sad to have lost someone you've shared some sort of common experience with, no matter how briefly... especially when you remember the person in question being likable, and funny... just an all around good guy. Plus it's always that much sadder when the person dies young. He was only 24.
Rest in peace, man. You will be missed.
Somehow this made me think of all the Mikes I've known - Michael T. from first grade, who had the same birthday as me and whom I had a cute little first grade crush on cause he was sweet,
denonymous (though considing the two names I've always known him by it took me until nearly the end of this entry to remember he's one too) and mike1, mike2 and mike3 from the old MSFC (
pjamms, Mlemonick and Dartt, respectively). On a whim I typed mike3's name into Google, and found his LJ. Left him a comment, hope I'll hear back, as I've been genuinely wondering how he's been lately.
So today I raise a glass (or more appropriately, a Mike's Hard Lemonade) to all you Mikes out there, past, present, here and gone on. Salud.
