Over years of random scribblings, I've got quite a few characters that have wandered through the brainmeats. They're a little like undiscovered actors that keep filming pilots, hoping that one will be picked up by a network... the shows, in this case, the fragments/beginnings of stories, never quite get picked up, but the characters sometimes stick around until something opens up for them later.

I'm still processing out two stories currently, one being the Nevershire webcomic/novelthing and the other being the Four Brothers/Ruby Sand book. This evening I was reminded of one of my better past characters from a retelling of a Midsummer Night's Dream I was playing with a few years ago but never got very far on. The "Helena" character out of this was an disgustingly beautiful bishonen prep school student of ambiguous sexuality named Jimmy Toro (short for Hajime)... and ever since I remembered him he's been running around my head being fabulous and spraying gay glitter all over my brain. It's all pretty hilarious really, but it's good too. The Nevershire story's protagonist needs a best friend.

Related to this, and looking for a face to work from for Jimmy, I typed "pretty Japanese boys" into Google Image Search and thus discovered MatsuJun. *whimper, fan self*. Um, yeah, pretteh indeed.

Speaking of pretty man candy and all, time for season finale of LOST.

So today, we've not only lost Maude/Dorothy (really I remember her best for "Did you try to bullshit last week?" from History of the World Part 1) but Desmond from LOST has been sued for sexual harassment. So not on, brothah. You and your sexy blue shirts are dead to me.

Seriously, I'm torn up about Bea Arthur though. Mom and I watched the Golden Girls religiously on Saturdays during its entire original run. I was reasonably sad about Estelle Getty passing last year, but Bea? Damn. That's a fair chunk of my childhood right there. I'm almost tempted to look for a torrent of the Star Wars Holiday Special now...

a) WTF, LJ seems to be having some trouble in the icon department.

b) so I'm doing some database level changes to one of the sites we manage just cause it's easier for me to do them with SQL queries than through the CMS... Each section of the web site is assigned a category, and each category has a numeric index, right?

As I was punching in queries I suddenly noticed which categories I happened to be working with this morning... 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, and 42.

And on a Wednesday, too.

Cause it's 12:30 and I'm a little tired for long winded entries.

  • So I mentioned Lent, and how I'm using the convenient excuse to make a few changes. Part of me is tempted to not post here what those changes are so that if I fail, I only have my own disappointment to deal with, but a) whatever, I don't think most of you have any stake in what I do here (but will cheer me on the off chance I succeed) and b) ... i don't know, there was a b in there somehow, though I'll be damned if I remember what it was.

Anyway. Giving up: caffiene, sugar/HFCS and to some extent, dairy and "white" food. All stuff I really shouldn't be eating anyway. Day one and the only thing I'm having trouble with is that I've been listless and headachy all day from the coffee deprivation, but I expect that'll go away in a couple of days. I am also giving up what I'm referring to as EIS - Extraneous Internet Shit. Which basically means I've banned myself from Facebook, Twitter and StumbledUpon, and once these last three eggs grow up, I'll be off DC as well. You may not see me on YIM and AIM quite as much either, though I'm just invisible/away for now. Still kinda toying with the idea of just going off the radar for the most part; there is peace to be found in not being constantly jacked in. Adding in: at least 45 minutes daily on writing stuff, getting some damn exercise (though I fail at it today due to coming home and trying to sleep off the caffiene headache), some time devoted each day to shoving through the storm and noise to find my quiet spot.

We'll see how that all goes.

  • I will never understand why people feel the need to ruin salads with onions. Bleg.

  • On the other hand, I may come out of all of this with an unholy addiction to gala apples. Something that fell off a damned tree should not be that delicious.

  • LOST tonight was fun, if not brain-breaking. Oh well.

  • Shit... only a week and a couple of days left... I really need to get my ass in gear.

And now... fall down go boom time.

  • 08:49 is pleased at the fresh snow.
  • 11:39 is midly freaking out about what is shaping up to be a hectic day tomorrow.
  • 13:49 is having a terrifyingly productive day
  • 18:56 has just baked a yummy cake... and it didn't end up crazy.
  • 22:53 has been hit with the LOST bat and now feels dirty for loving it.

LOST. ASLDKJALSKDJLASKDJLASKDJ.

I was kinda worried cause I was really really eh about the premiere last week, but tonight's was full of the beat me with the brainfuck bat win.I like how the show is clearly starting to wind to a conclusion and loose ends finally seem to be getting tied up - it actually looks like it's going some where instead of everyone running about because the writers didn't know WTF they were doing either.

More shows like this, less Jack and Kate boringness, amirite, y/y?
