I am not drunk. However I am wired, full, and positively glowing from jubilance.

Crunk and Disorderly party was neither crunk nor disorderly until at the end of Indecision, the announcement came down that Barack Obama had won. Things got disorderly wicked quick. :) All told, it was a great party. Food was good, cake was tasty, and we did have a good turnout of friends with whom I was extremely happy to be stuffed into my living room watching everything go down. I actually remembered to grab my camera - I'll be posting pics on facebook probably tonight. I'm too wired to sleep.

Called up Dad as soon as Cingular's network freed up after the announcement (I couldn't call anyone for about five minutes afterwards). Both of us were sorry Mom missed this, but Dad was quite emotional about the fact that he didn't. Bless him and all others his age that made it long enough to see this happen. I then called my sisters and Amastan and pretty much had a conversation with each of them that mostly consisted of screaming incoherently and jumping up and down.

It's down to me and [livejournal.com profile] morlock awake and left in the living room, still watching CNN amidst party detrius... Which is weirdly appropriate.

Damn. President Obama. I'm kinda boggled. My attitude on him in the last two years went from Is he kidding? to maybe we could to holy shit, we really could to yes we can. And now, in the aftermath of Yes We Did... yeah. I'm still shellshocked. Well done, America. Well fucking done indeed.

And can I say... Best looking first family evar? I mean Michelle and the girls looked FIERCE tonight...

It's a different world out there right now. Lets not screw it up again.

You know, I mourn my fading youth. Once upon I time I could get 2 hours of sleep and go to work daisy-fresh. Not so much at 30. I has a doctor's appointment this afternoon anyway... *sigh* need to stop scheduling those on Wednesday.

I will say this - part of the reason I was up so late was that I cleaned up after the party and did all the dishes. I don't know I was really wired and didn't feel I could go to bed without the kitchen sparkling and the living room restored to some sort of order post crunk/disorderly. I don't know I've actually gotten to rather like doing the dishes post surgery... it's kinda meditative...

*shuffles zombie-like downstairs to feed on the sweet sweet tears of Republicans get breakfast*

Read this on Katrina Gamble's facebook. She was a Lamontster at Smith with a bunch of us... and this was so well said that I needed to yoink and repost.

"While my Obama high can't be taken at this moment, I did have to pause when the results came in on the state propositions. I was beyond disappointed to find that Prop 8 is likely to pass in California and to learn that Florida and my home state, Arizona, passed constitutional amendments banning gay marriage. And Arkansas essentially banned gay adoption and fostering. What makes this even more bittersweet is that the same high black turnout that helped elect Obama also likely helped pass these discriminatory measures. Exit polls showed that 70 percent of African Americans supported Prop 8 compared to 47 percent of whites. As a black lesbian it is tough sometimes, to put it mildly, to maneuver in these two communities that are often at odds with each other.

"One step forward, but many many more to be taken. I truly believe in Obama's message of HOPE, so I am HOPEFUL that soon LGBTI people will achieve full equality. Obama says he wants to lead a MOVEMENT for change, which means we can't become complacent post-election. There is much more work to be done. Another day, another fight."

Oh dear me yes. Yes. Preach sister, yes. That's the thing to remember folks. This is just the beginning, and while I fully advocate and approve of the raucous celebration that is going on worldwide, we cannot rest on our laurels. The passing of Prop 8, and the insanely racist comments in response to Obama's acceptance speech on youtube, and the fact that Obama is entering the Presidency with the country pretty much in shreds that he and his administration have to painstakingly piece back together shows this. Change only began to happen last night, folks - if we want it to stick around, we all have to shove up our sleeves and keep fighting for it today, tomorrow, and every single day.

So. Lets get off our jaded, apathetic duffs and get cracking. This is our country, lets make it what we want it to be.

[livejournal.com profile] firinel sent me the watercolor she did of me about a month back! Thank you, babe, it's beautiful. *mwah* PS everyone, she also did an amazing watercolor of Obama and (i think) is still offering prints of it.

I must say, I'm really really liking my new abi-station icon. I was really not sold on the fact that I didn't really like their take on dreads at first, but they've definitely grown on me since. Plus it's happy me with a coffee cup. :)

While digging through my desk hunting for an address, I unearthed a cache of pristine unused postcards that I've amassed over the years.

Some of y'alls best keep a weather eye on the mail in the next couple weeks. :D
